Sebastian had a better night. He didn't cough and his breathing sounded better than the night before.
However, he woke up today and after about 10 steps, he coughed - but unlike every other time where it was a dry hack, this time he actually coughed up something. It appeared to be mostly white mucusy substance with a tinge of pink in it.
He didn't have any immediate issues afterwards and he even ate his breakfast so he seems like he is okay.
But is the productive cough with the stuff I described a good or bad thing?
Thanks.
Not a Bet and not giving Vet advice.
It doesn't surprise me at all thst he coughed up a little "gunk". He's on a cough suppressant for his cough, right? This just sounds like a little something he needed ro get out. Alao, his throat is probably a little bit irritated anyway from the occasional times he has coughed. It could also be a little "gunk" from his allergy wheeze the other day.
The fact that it was just a one time "get itnout" cough and he was abst fine afterwards doesn't sound like anything horrible at all!
Just curuois, had you given him the ....can't remember the name...."lung gold" ((?) Stuff yet?
Hugs
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
I emailed my vet so hopefully I can get a response that doesn't require another vet visit, lol.
He got his first treatment of the Lung Gold last night, so we'll see how he responds to it. For what it's worth, he had a better night last night than the night before. The wheezing was barely noticeable, and wasn't even noticeable for long stretches, and that was after a nice walk yesterday afternoon. I'll be watching my Arlo cams to see how he is doing today.
In a perfect world, I would hope the herbs he is taking (recommended by PathwithPaws website), along with the Lung Gold are doing something to clear up whatever he had, as I don't believe his lung mets were that big to be causing these types of issues. I am hopeful it was more of an infection that was the root cause. In a perfect world, the hack up this morning was a positive development in getting rid of some yucky phlegm so he can breathe more easily.
For what it's worth, here is what the Lung Gold supposedly works to accomplish... He has been taking a Life Gold supplement before this, which helps provide immune support. That's what led me to look at the Lung Gold.
Thanks for the info in the Lung Gold. Sounds like good "stuff".
I noticed it said "helpful for productive cough". Seems to me that's what Sebastian had this morning. 🙂
Just check with your Vet if you ate still giving Sebastian cough medicine from him. If his med is to surprew the cough, and the herb is to make productive cough......ya' see what I'm saying?
Again, the IMPORTANT thing is Sebastian had a good night's sleep, is breathing well and feeling fine!! 🙂

Hmmm. Everyone hacks up gunk at some point right? I'm thinking that's what this may have been, Sebastian was just clearing out the bad stuff. I do like Sally's input to let your vet know about the Lung Gold. And thank you for that info. Wish I had known about it when Jerry had mets, or when Wyatt Ray was healing from pneumonia last month.

I'm thinking that is what it was - my vet didn't seem too worried about it - she is giving Sebastian a different antibiotic for his eye discharge.
Said we could hold off on the cough tab until he had some longer lasting episodes. He also gets his Metacam refill today.
Speaking of the metacam, we have started using online pharmacies to fill our prescriptions. For Metacam, to get a 100ml refill through our vet would cost $380.00 - we found an online store that sells it for $85.00. They faxed over a request to our vet for the prescription, our vet faxed it back and we'll get it tonight.
We did the same thing with the cough tabs - a 30 pack through our vet was something like $45.00. I was able to order it online for the same price, but instead of 30, we are getting a 250 bottle.
