My St. Bernard has had 2 rounds carbo post amputation.  No lung mets in August. She has developed a terrible dry hacking cough after each treatment. My husband and I both nurse practitioners and have tried everything. Today coughed up blood. Has anyone had this side effect from the chemo ? I am sick.

Welcome, your future posts will not have to wait for approval.

I'm sorry your girl is having issues, what is her name?

I wanted to approve your post so others could help, I can't do much right now on my phone.  I'll check back in a while when I'm back on line.

Does the cough stop between treatments?  We did not have this problem, but I am wondering if they put anything down her throat which could cause inflammation or irritation?  (They did Otis' chemo in the back, so I never really saw the process).  The blood is concerning - do you have the option to get her into the vet first thing tomorrow (or even tonight depending upon severity)?  Unfortunately, you also might need to get new X-rays done.  But, hopefully this is something less serious.  Will be thinking about you.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.
