Hoooray! Yes, I agree; Dr. Pam taught us that preventing "wind up pain" is done by a constant stream of adequate pain meds, rather than waiting until the pain is apparent.

Good job!

I was hoping, we could stretch it out. Tomorrow I go back to work so it becomes difficult. I need to run home during lunch I guess. Hmm.... or, she's feeling better enough and is so much quieter now, maybe I can bring her to work. Hmmm.....That might actually work.

She is generally itchy and I don't think it's the sutures. I think she's having some allergy issues.

Thanks.

Ok, today will be an interesting experiment. I am taking Cora to work. We will see if she can deal with the travel and transfer to my office and if she can be quiet enough at work that I can actually function.

It's going to be an insanely busy day at work so if I don't post tonight, don't worry. I will be back.

Chris----This goes under the "nothing is happenstance" category:

Was at work yesterday...overheard a customer say she couldn't take tramadol because it makes her ITCH!!!

Just now looked up a side effect of tramadol on Google and it said ITCHING!

Just thought I'd pass it on for whatever it's worth.

Can't wait to here about Cora's first day at work:-) :-)

Oh thanks so much for sharing that, Sally. When I tried to find info online I wasn't finding a lot about itchiness.

The past couple days at work have had it's ups and downs. It has showed me how far she's come. I tried early on bringing her and she was loud and fretful the whole time and I thought my head might explode.. which would be messy. There were loud periods but mostly she was quiet and when she was loud, there was a reason- she needed to potty, a crying baby, pain med wearing off. Certainly there have been bits when she was stressed out. The socialization is probably really good for her. And it's tired her out. She's a sleepy girl right now. We are both figuring out how to make this work and I will bring her again and take her other places too.

Today during lunch I drove to another office for a bit and when I got back to my office she was sound asleep in the car. Since it was nice and cool (but not cold) I left her. She slept through the maintenance crew power washing the cement and blowing away the grit. Then the thunder storm arrived. I decided to bring her inside. I got her out of the car and we were about to walk in and just that fast the storm was right on top of us. Knowing that our building has been hit by lightening before, I was ready to run. Cora, knowing she couldn't run quickly, hunkered down. I scooped her up and hurried us inside. Cora doesn't like to be carried and being "scooped" would normally be a cause for great upset. This time, Cora had no complaints at all.

It makes me reflect. People have been commenting on Cora's increased trust. I had to take a moment to reflect on that. Cora is still "determined". She wants  to do things her way. But she will let me guide her if we are going in a direction she wants to go. The first few days after her surgery all she wanted was me near her. When she's really frightened, what calms her is me holding and touching her. And every day now, she comes to me to get pats and ear scritches. She's changed so much from the girl who might growl at any touch at all.

Awww. She IS getting there Chris, all the signs are there. Not too many dogs would react so calmly during a thunderstorm. Maybe this has been asked before but have you ever considered trying a Thundershirt or Anxiety Wrap on her? It's based on how some autistic kids like to be held close when they're stressed, and works really well on some dogs. From what you describe of Cora's behavior she does remind me of having autistic tendencies (not that I'm an expert, just based on what I've heard from friends with autistic kids).

You have the patience that it takes to give her the reassuring, good life she deserves. That is so rare in people!

Everything happens for a reason, it was your destiny for Cora and you to find eachother. I can see a book in the making!

Yeah,Jerry nailed it...this is a true destiny!! When we get your posts and not living with her everyday, her progress really stands out to us!! Really, she's made HUGE progress and it really is in a relatively short span (sure it seems like an eternity to our though)

You really almost seem guided in the way you instinctively know what to do for her (another destiny validarion:-) :-) )

The Universe knew exactly what it was doing putting you together......And you have a job where our can take her to work? YAY for that!!

The picture you posted shows a very sweet soul ad you uncovered the layers and found it:-)

Much love and support to you, Sally and Happy Hannah

Cora got her sutures out yesterday. She was having a bit of a reaction to the sutures so I wonder if that was making her all over itchy. Anyway, stitches out meant she could have a bath. And since she's been so itchy it was an oatmeal bath. Today she has been happy, quiet, not-itchy and she has only had 1 pain med. She also went for her longest walk ever (it was after that she got the pain med).

Oh my gosh, I can't even describe how happy I am. I made a big, long post to her blog. It doesn't  even feel real that things could be so good right now. big-grin I just had to share.
