Hello again
Update on Jack and a question
Jack has been doing fabulously well, two Chemo treatments down two more to go. chasing rabbits, finding bits of them to scavenge (Mr Fox has a lot to answer for) and is generally a very happy chap
however, I do not know if he is in pain or not, he seems to be very touchy if our old girl stumbles in to him, tonight he and his sister had a real go at each other and he ended up with a graze on his nose no idea why except that she maybe accidentally walked into him, he also got quite growly with me as he was lying by the sofa and I put my feet down not realising he was there, don't think I touched him but I couldn't say. Also he does yelp at times for no apparent reason.
My question is that we are about 2 months post amputation would he still be in pain? He has a dose of loxicom in the evenings but when we see the vet next week should I be asking for some stronger meds for his occasional pain
I just feel that there has to be a degree of discomfort still but does it warrant stronger pain killers
Is Phantom Pain a possibility? We didn't deal with that so hopefully someone else will chime in!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Phantom limb pain can recur for up to months. But Jack could also be in pain if he is overdoing it. Find lots of professional tips about the amount and type of exercise recommended for Tripawds in Loving Life On Three Legs .
Or... consider consulting with a certified canine rehab tech (CCRP or CCRT). The Tripawds Foundation is still offering reimbursement for a limited number of consultations! For details, see the Maggie Moo Fun for Tripawd Rehab.

Sometimes I think Murphy holds back because he's afraid of pain. Like, before his surgery, all 3 dogs would play tug-of-war and wrestle. But before his surgery when he would be in pain if he yelped out, Max sort of freaked out and would go at Murphy. It got a little bit bad at times, to the point that we had to put a muzzle on Max when we'd put the dogs outside. We could tell that Max was upset by the whole thing because he would be trembling, but it's like something just came over him. It's been 2 1/2 years since Murphy's surgery and most of the time when the dogs play, it's just Cassie & Max tugging & Murphy barking at the 2 of them. Once in awhile Murphy will tug, but not often. However, outside is a whole other matter! When it comes to chasing after squirrels or that stupid ground hog - Murphy can run just as fast as the other 2, jumps up the tree, will try to dig under the wood pile if he hears mice...no fear of hurting his good leg that then! lol So maybe it's just an anticipatory yelp?

Murphy had his right front leg amputated due to histiocytic sarcoma at 7 years old. He survived 4 years, 2 months & 1 week, only to be taken by hemangiosarcoma at 11 1/2 years 6/12/17

We were at the vets for our bloods today so I asked her what she thought
Pretty much what you said above, possibly phantom pain and also possibly overdoing it. she observed that he had no issue with her touching the amputation area so it was unlikely to be that, massage to be booked I think
