Hi!  Bandit here wanting to know if anyone out there has experienced constipation post op?  I had diarrea early Friday morning at the hospital.  I came home on Saturday and I still have not pooped.  I am eating and peeing as well as drinking lots of water.  Daddy started giving me fish oil last night to try and loosen things up.  Any other suggestions?

Lot's of licks to you.

Well hello Bandit and family! Your post has been approved and we look forward to hearing more about Bandit as his recovery continues. You can be assured that not pooping for several days after this surgery is perfectly normal. It's basically because of the combination of the pain meds and just going through the surgery recovery process. It's great that he's eating and drinking and peeing!

Members here often find that pumpkin is good to help get things moving. You want the natural kind without any added sugars, etc. Organic pie filling usually fits the bill. Depending on his sides you just want to give him a teaspoon full or maybe a tablespoon full again, depending on his size. Of course, we are not vets and not giving good advice so check with your vet about how much to give him.

Some members have found steam squash also helps keep things moving. Keep us posted and let us know how things are going. If you have any questions, we are glad to help, okay?

Hugs

Hi Bandit!

The gut really gets messed up after surgery, for a little while anyways. Follow Sally's suggestions to keep things moving along with more fiber. Usually in a few days you'll start the poopiconaction again and your neighbors will laugh so hard when your humans jump up and down after you do it! icon_lol

Let us know how you're doing!
