Well it's been 5 days & the hardest part is keeping him calm! He has slowed back down some since this weekend's "squirrel chased by a tripawd chased by a preggo" story. I think after all that action he wore himself out & decided to calm down a little. He is sneaking away to jump on & off of the bed though! I took him to the vet yesterday for his follow-up and the whole staff came to see him & was amazed at his progress & attitude. That and the fact that he started a growling/barking dog fight with a german shepherd bigger than him and with all 4 legs while I was turned away & checking in. Maybe he was a little defensive about his new situation. The pouch was a seroma , but it's already settled some, I was told to use the hot compress ( I'd already started thanks to all of you). I saw the incision sight and wasnt too surprised or saddened, also thanks to you guys. There's LOTS of sutures, but they had to remove the scapula too so it was quite a large area. He got a new green bandage which is much more stylish than the yellow & is cleared til next Tues for suture removal. Yay! No phantom pains yet though every now & then he jerks around & looks at his "arm space" as if someone pinched him, but he doesnt scream or cry with this so I'm not too concerned. Thanks again everyone! Your advice and support is really helping me through all of this!
Sounds like Connor is really doing well - now that he's settled down some. His activity level had me a little concerned 😉
It's all smooth sailing after the stitches are removed. Better get your preggo running shoes on!

Thanks for the great update! Keep up the good work there Connor. Just be careful jumping on and off the furniture. You no longer have that spare leg!

That goes for you, too mom! Sorry but someone needed to remind you!

Connor,
I can totally relate to those squirrels. They used to sit on my back fence and flick their tail. It drove me nuts. I could even watch them jump around in the neighbor's tree. They would not give a girl a rest. Dad never did let me go outside and chase them, but I sure would raise a fuss in the house hoping that they would just go and let a girl have rest. Never did happen.
Glad that you are feeling so good and surprising your Pawrents. It like they do not understand that we just know "normal" and will adapt to what ever is thrown our way. Now if we could only get them to have the same approach to life. You know, a good hug, good treat, good run, clearing squirrels. Ah, life can be great.
Keep on impressing everyone.

I'm so glad that Connor is feeling so good just 5 days post-op!! But you really have to try and keep him from jumping up on the bed or couch for now... cause when he jumps off, that's when he could do some damage to his other leg and that would really suck!
I'd love to see a picture of Connor with his new green bandage... Hurry up and post some pictures!
Angel Jake's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
We ended up putting our mattress on the floor, so Harley could still sleep there when he wanted, but we didn't have to worry about him hurting himself getting up/down from the bed.
Amputation on 11/10/09, due to Histiocytic Sarcoma in left elbow. Angel Harley earned his wings on 06/24/10.

That is what we did also. What we won't do for these little creatures.

I need to figure out how to post pics! You cant see much of his green bandage at this time though as he started scratching at it. So I got some supplies from the doc I work for and kindof paper mache'd a cast over that side of his bandage, then ace bandaged over that. So now when he tries to scratch his stitches, he only gets a solid cast. Ha! We are a week post-op now & Tues he should be getting his stitches out. I'm so relieved he's healing fast. His little (bigger) sister Chloe is so anxious to play with him again. He's been better about the bed. He still sneaks in to jump up, but waits for me to carry him down, so at least he's not getting the shock to the good front leg. He's always determined to do the opposite of what I tell him so I suppose this is a compromise for him. I know you guys want to say it would be best to just keep the bedroom door shut, and I agree, but we are in a one bedroom apartment for a few weeks til our move to DE, and being 7 mo preggo, I'm in & out of there for the bathroom so often I forget to shut it every time! I know, my fault, but my brain doesnt work like it used to nowadays, and he's a sneaky, quick little guy. I will work on getting a pic or a video on here this weekend. I took pics of him every day since the surgery so that I could share this with others who are about to experience this for the first time. Thanks for checking in!

Here are detailed instructions for adding images to forum posts. The easiest way is to upload your photos to Connor's blog. Then you can very easily add them to blog posts, or copy their image location and paste that in the Image URL field by using the Insert Image button when drafting forum posts.
Hope this helps. Glad to hear Connor is healing well!

Good going, Connor! It sounds like you are doing great! We're glad to hear you aren't making your mom chase you anymore... at least for now!
