I read here that best results are when you add a holistic vet to your arsenal.. I will be seeing one soon. I also know that one holistic vet might have a different plan than another.. and some are brighter than others. I forgot the report I read here,, but this vet suggests the following herbals. I'm wondering who uses them,, etc,,,, and is this doctor considered gold standard in what she suggests?( I am more likely to follow the suggestions of a vet that has dealt with 100 osteos vs another vet that has had 5 or 10)
Samshedan
Xhu Fu Zhu Yu Tong
XiaoChai Hu Tang
Artemsisin
Prednsione, (" good for when there is respiratory distress")
Yep, blending eastern and western is referred to as "full spectrum care."
Keep in mind each situation is different. Some herbals may not be a good idea for some pets, the holistic vet takes into consideration the entire health situation before prescribing any. So what is right for one dog may not be right for Simon. It really is a case by case basis most of the time.
Here is an article about Artemisinin.
Prednisone is not an herbal, it is a steroid and mainly only reserved for late stage cancer treatment as far as I understand. It's heavy duty stuff not to be taken lightly. Here is an article about prednisone and side effects.

We had a holistic vet along with our regular vet and I highly recommend it. My Dobe Nitro had a front amp due to osteo 4 years ago, and he was given Chinese herbs that I feel were a great part of his success story - he lived for over 3 years after his amp when old age took him from us at 11 1/2 years of age. I'd be happy to share his experience with you if you're interested.
Paula and Warrior Angel Nitro
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

I used artemisinin as well as Power Mushrooms after the carboplatin and during the metronomics . I had to d/c the cyclophosphamide but continued the artemisinin and mushrooms long term. There is also a Chinese blend called Stasis Breaker that helps with cancer in general.
Pam
Nitro took the Chinese herb Stasis Breaker along with Bone Stasis

Are power mushrooms a brand?
Yes, Power Mushrooms is a branded product name, manufactured by Health Concerns. You would need to compare the ingredients and wait for feedback from others who may have tried it to determine if it is preferred. The Tripawds Nutrition blog is a good place to search for supplement product summaries and reviews–many posts include comments from users...
