We are so sorry to hear about Hannah. Bless you for being such a good mom and doing everything that you could to help her get better.
Love to you in your time of loss,
Barney B and Mom, Linda
My people and I are all extremely shocked and saddened by the news about Hannah.
You are a wonderful person for taking the steps you did to help, and for sharing your story here. It may be little consolation, but by doing so you have helped others prepare by knowing what to expect, and that difficulties can arise.
You have our best wishes and Hannah is in our thoughts.

I just want to say thank-you to you all for your sympathy and sweet
words. It has been a very long sad day for me as I am still in shock
over the whole thing. It really has not sunk in yet that she is really
gone. I was told that the surgery threw a blood clot and it went into
her brain and caused her to have seizures and caused an aneurism or
stroke. I also was told it rarely happens and only a small percentage
can happen to and Hannah was in that percentage. even the vet was
shocked because she sat up all last night and was alert and happy as
she could be. I was prepared for everything that came along with
surgery but this. I was devastated when I first heard it. Thank God my
mom was here with me and has been great support all day. I am actually
going to take a few days off and go home with her for Easter and take
some time to get over this. Sitting here at home where all her things
are and smells and memories is just making it nearly impossible and
tearing me apart. I know I will have to come home and deal with it sooner or later but reality just has not suck in yet. I am also waiting for her ashes so I can keep her until I figure out where I want to keep her. My vet has been very great and sympathec through this whole process. This is a lot harder than I ever imagined. I feel like I lost my child but know she is at peace now and in a better place. Thanks again for all your support. You have been so great when I needed it most. It was nice to relate with others that were facing similiar situations with their loved ones as I was. I will keep you all and your furry loved ones in my prayers and hope for a speedy recovery on their healing progress.
First off, I am so very sorry to hear about Hannah...may you find some peace over Easter.
My Saint Bernard, Nori, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in late February. After much agonizing, my husband and I decided to go ahead with the amputation of her front right leg (Nori is only 4 years old, and we adopted her from a rescue, so she already has been through so much...she's a fighter). Her surgery took place on 03/11/08 at the Univeristy of Wisconsin - Madison Vet School. We picked her up last Saturday, and she panted the entire way home (2 hour car ride), even when I held her head in my lap. My stomach was in knots. She has been eating and drinking okay, but is very tired...last night she was just laying on her side with her eyes open and I was thinking that she was getting depressed (i know, i know, dogs don't get depressed...but maybe Nori is the exception). I am feeling so terrible for her.
We are giving her tramadol (sp?) and duramax (sp?) for the pain and i am wondering if that has anything to do with it. Also, she has a fluid pocket that the surgeon told me not to worry about as it would take a few weeks to go down...but i still bothers me nonetheless. I guess i am just posting this because i need to talk about it...i have now worked myself up into an emotional frenzy and I am literally sick to my stomach about the whole thing - please tell me this is going to get better...

It's going to get better. I was lethargic, wide-eyed, and panting while I was on Tramadol. It's a great painkiller, but it made me sleepy. Once I got weened off the meds, I was back to my old happy self.
I also had a seroma (build up of fluid), but that is normal and completely harmless. My people took me to the vet who drained it easily and without any trouble while we all watched. We've heard of other dogs going home with a tube for trainage, but that's gross.
Thanks for the update!
