We're about 2 or so weeks past his 3 month ampuversary and his oncologist gave him an A- at his last visit. He gets IV chemo once a month and oral chemo once a month. Not once has he gotten sick from the chemo! The oncologist said we'll do at least 6 months of chemo and then assess from there (possibly dropping to ever other month for chemo--who knows).
Anyway, someone on another board suggested looking into essiac tea for help "curing" the cancer. I can't find any info here but if you Google it, there are tons of people who "swear" by it. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Meanwhile, we've decided being a one dog family isn't working for us, so we've been searching to adopt another Lab. We've been cleared by a rescue group in San Diego to adopt and we've been to one adoption event but were not successful then (long story). I'm coordinating to go down on Wednesday to meet up to five dogs that I'm interested in. Three are mixed breeds and three are only about a year old. But there is one purebreed yellow Lab that is about 4 years old that I'm most interested in. Wish us luck!
Well done to Chico. That's great news. And good luck with finding another fur buddy.
Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
Right ON Chico! Congrats on kickin' cancer's butt! What a great update.
As for essaic tea...well, I have to say that when something is promoted as a cure for cancer, I am a total skeptic. There are lots of stories out there about it but no hard evidence that it is beneficial. However, as you said, many have used it and believe in it, so their experiences can't be discounted either. Regardless, here is a link to some information about essaic tea that we dug up a while back.
I hope you find a pawfect new member for your pack! What fun.
Keep us posted, thanks for visiting!

Congrats on 3 months! And I hope things go well with the labs you meet!
Don't know anything about the essiac tea.
Keep us posted on Chico and a potential bro or sis!
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.
