dear all,
have you every suffered chemo's side effect with diarrhea and bloodystool?
how was your treatment for these side effect?
Chubby is using another chemo Etoposide, but after 5 days she has the side effects,
we stop the drug, and give her some anti diarrhea pills, it still happened.
would you please share your experience? how long it had been through? what was your treatment.
Thank you.
Patty
Max had 6 rounds of carboplatin. About 24 - 48 hours after each treatment, he would be a little lethargic and have "soft poo." I wouldn't call it diarrhea, just soft. He did well with the first 4 treatments, but since chemo is cumulative, treatments 5 & 6 affected him a little more. That's when the diarrhea kicked in, lethargy, and loss of appetite. Not sure if that helps any, but I hope Chubby gets to feeling better real soon.
Patty, I'm so sorry. What did your vet say about this and his inability to walk? Please don't wait to call the vet if you haven't already, diarrhea can turn serious if you let it go too long, especially while taking chemotherapy drugs. What kind of anti-diarrhea medicine is he on?

FYI: Diarrhea and bloody stool can indicate an adverse reaction to certain NSAIDs:

dear all,
Chubby already had severe bloody stool for 6 days, today she finally poo with pasty stool without blood.
Etoposide is really with a severe side effect for her, and since Chubby has the lung mets after 8 month amputation she seemed can not accept any chemo, cause Carboplatin caused diarrhea last month too.
Last 7 days we treated her KBT, Berberine and transamin (anti-diarrhea and anti-blooding), and we stop all drug she usually took (cyclophosphamide, previcox and etoposide).
I treated her glutamine in congee mixed with chicken, yesterday she finally had appetite to eat.
Since her left front leg can't walk well, I started give her glucosamine, it helps! but still walking hard, plus the severe side effect this time, really tortured sometimes, I think it's time to let her into sleep...... I am so sad..
does anybody can share some effect glucosamine? I treated her 1500mg per day. and her situation is getting better, but still bad...
Thank you.
Patty
Hi Patty, I'm so sorry things haven't improved a whole lot. It's good to hear the diarrhea has stopped though. I wish I could tell you that the glucosamine will help Chubby get around better, but I honestly don't know. I'm not a vet, but from what I understand about supplements it takes time for things like this to work. What are your veterinarian's suggestions? Now is the time to be in close communication with the vet.
I know you are doing all you can for Chubby, and he really loves you for that. But remember to listen to your instinct, and that voice in your heart, and decide if he is still happy or if it is time to set him free. We like to say that when it comes to living with cancer, it's all about quality of life, not quantity. Setting our loved animals free from their pain is an awful, heartbreaking responsibility for people to have to make, but it's a small price to pay for all of the good times that we share with our animals.
My heart goes out to you, I hope that he starts to feel better soon.
