I am hoping to get some answers/advice. Ollie is now 7 weeks post op amputation of his front left leg due to osteosarcoma. His recovery up to this point has been promising with his energy levels and personality coming back once he was off the pain meds. About 2 weeks ago (what the vet believes is a seroma or hematoma) popped up around his incision site, he has had it drained twice and we have been doing warm compresses to help it go down. I can’t help but notice ever since this bump arrived he has not been acting the same. He isn’t moving around as fast and he doesn’t get excited about things he used to. The vet said he needs to have limited activity to help the seroma go down so I know he isn’t happy about that, but lately he does not even lift his head when I walk through the door coming home from work. I was just reaching out to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. The vet said worse case scenario this bump is not a seroma and possibly the cancer in the soft tissue that has already come back. Any advice or past experience is greatly appreciated.
BTW, love, Ollie's avatar pic😊
Just throwing this out there.....has the Vet checked the fluid for infection or for anything for that matter? Any fever?
Others will chime jn. Hang on, this will get figured out, okay?

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Aww poor guy! I'm so sorry, I know you must be so worried! You are very observant, which is great.
Has the fluid from the seroma been cultured to make sure it's not MRSA ? Has any other lab work been done?
Another thought: pain. What was his daily activity like before the incision site problem and he started slowing down? Has he been evaluated by a rehabilitation therapist? If not, he could need ongoing pain management .
If the labwork is all good, I would get another opinion from a canine rehabilitation therapist to gauge his pain levels. The Tripawds Foundation will even pay for your first rehab visit so please take advantage of it.

I read the link you sent, it does sound similar. When I took Ollie to the vet last week, this was the second time our vet drained the area and she seemed optimistic that she still thought it was a seroma . Ollie’s temperature was normal and she did not believe any reason for infection. She did not test the fluid, but said that since the biopsy results reported clean margins with the amputation that she does not think it is the osteosarcoma (the bump also popped up within 12 hours, it was not gradual). If his mood does not improve I will be sure to get in contact with our vet and ask about doing some lab work and discuss anything we can do for pain management .
