Bailey had her amputation 11/12 and her first carboplatin treatment on 12/12. She seemed to be doing great after the procedure. She was eating and very "hoppy." Since yesterday I have notice she isn't herself. She is more tired and less interested in eating (although I was able to give her different food which she did eat). I was just wondering if anybody has experience this 5-6 days after treatment?
(Bailey w/ stitches and bandages off)
Jill was fine with food on carbo but she was DEFINITELY lethargic and tired around a week or so after treatment. I called her "the lump". It sounds strange noticing this side affect in a cat, because, really, what do they do besides lay around, but I could tell she was very lethargic and just seemed a little "down". She kind of had that face that Bailey has in that pick! Kind of like "please just let me lay here for a little bit...."
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. It can be right after, but actually for Carbo I was told 5-7 days is typically when the side effects show up. I would say it lasted 3-4 days at the beginning...towards her later treatments since the effects of the chemo is cumulative and it had built up in her system maybe a little longer like 5-7 days at most.

Absolutely normal to panic. And just a heads up don't freak if Baileys white blood cells are too low at any point and you have to postpone treatment. When I brought Jill for her second chemo she couldn't have it bc her white blood cells (specifically her neutrophils) were too low, and hers were VERY low. I freaked out. I was shocked bc after her first treatment she didn't have ANY side effects. Anyway after a million people reassuring me that it's totally normal for this to happen I calmed down and two weeks later her count was back up to normal. So just a forewarning that that COULD happen and not to panic if it does. It happened to Jill again between treatments 3&4 and she's good as new now and her last chemo was in April

Oh, it's okay to panic here! We ALL do! But I think you can feel pretty reassured that this is just a little side effect that sometimes shows up right about now.
Yes, just dittoing what Jill said, carbo./chemo can cause side effects between days five and seven...give or take. Of course, we are not vets and if your concerns cntinue, have Bailey checked out
Did the vet give you any Cerenia for nausea? If you aven't already done so, maybe go on and give Bailey a dose as prescribed.
Bailey's surgery site really looks good! Is Bailey's hair already startng to grow back??? It was a couple of months before I started seeng any real difference in Happ Hannah's hair growth!
Okay sweet Bailey...you get yor little tummy settled down and start perking up! You're a very, very sweet girl!
Hugs!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Lily was like that also-started after her treatment and each time got a little more pronounced. We were going to do 6 rounds of carbo but we stopped after 5 because she just got too exhausted after her last treatment.
I agree that you should let the vet know and see if there is anything she/he could do to make Bailey feel better. She looks like she's recovering really well-such a sweet girl!
Joan and Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
Now we have noticed her(only) front leg is a bit swollen and seems to be the issue. It's starting to remind me of how this all started. Now I am starting to worry a lot. I did take her off her pain meds (she also has a bit of arthritis). I will put her back on just in case. Her vet is off today, so I am hoping putting her back on her meds will help. We were doing so good.
Hang in there, you are still doing good, these sound like normal ups and downs. However if you're concerned, do call your clinic to let them know. It is true, carbo side effects will either happen within 24 hours or about a week later. Strange but true! Remember you can put anti-nausea medication in her regimen or even grated ginger in her food which should help. I hope she's feeling better soon, keep us posted.

Most of the time dogs may experience a little lethargy or appetite suppression the first few days after the chemo injection. Tazzie only ate some of her food and she had a little soft stool (I gave her probiotics for that) for the first 1-3 days after a treatment. The white cell count can also drop a little after a chemo treatment and that happens most commonly from 7-10 days after her chemo. I would take her temperature (should be less than 102.5) to make sure she does not need antibiotics (this is rare).
Maybe she has some pain and swelling in her front foot secondary to arthritis or the extra stress of being a large tripawd. I had to keep Tazzie on her NSAID (she took meloxicam) all of the time or she would be sore.

PS you can always call one of the other doctors if one of us is off that day
And to ditto Jerry, you still are doing good!!
This is most likey the arthritis...but could be so many oher mior things...a bug bit...some sort of allergice reactin to "something".....maybe a little circulation thing...so many NOT bad possibilities! Remember, her previous swelling in her "bad" leg does in no way, shape or form mean this is the same thing..----"this" does NOT equal "that"...okay?
Let us kow what the vet says tomorrow, okay?
And BAILEY, listen up! Gotta' quite scaring mom, okay? This jurney makes us humans a little nuts! We haven't mastered the "dog being more dog" thing as well as you have!
Surroj dingnyo with calmAND HUGE hugs!
