Miss Mollie Moo and I have a question. 2 weeks ago her CBC showed a platelet count of 125,000. We will be going in either this Friday or Monday for another CBC. This Friday will mark one month from her first treatment. Our vet wants to do another CBC count first before we proceed (obviously). Does anyone have experience of low platelet count but count going back up before next treatment...and did your vet/oncologist use same dosage or a lower dosage of Carboplatin for their treatment? If doing chemo treatments farther apart than the 3-4 week protocol, will the chemo treatments be as effective?
*Also, with low platelet counts, are there specific supplements out there for this??
Love ~Miss Mollie Moo and Family
Somey with the actual specifics will have to chime in. I can only say I've actually seen scenarios where the treatment had ro be delayed TWO times in a row before the next dose could be given snd there didn seems to be any negative consequences.
Sprry, that's the only part I can answer!
BTW, I love seeing Mollie Moo's blogs and pictures! LOVE that mug!!
Hugs!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Low platelet counts are usually not a reason to delay treatment with carboplatin, especially at that number. Tazzie always had a dip in her platelet count (once as low as 25,000) and I never decreased her dose and her counts always recovered. I did consult an oncologist and she said to only decrease the dose if the neutrophil count dips below 2,000.
Platelets will increase on their own without supplements. The risk of a continually low platelet count is spontaneous bleeding. I have only seen this once in a dog receiving CCNU chemo for a different type of cancer.
