So 12 days post amp Bogi cant walk now his back legs are giving out and Surgeon said he sees it a lot but Bogi is extreme he is ARCHING his back and has not gotten up for 4 days he is panting a lot and in much discomfort he thinks it could be a combination of pulled muscles overworked muscles and his HIPS acting up he said he seems sore at hip joints. he said with enough rest in 14 days it SHOULD get better. but what if not? has anyone every had this issue???
Maybe possibly consider massage therapy or acupuncture to help relieve the pain? I also feed Shooter a joint supplement (I use Cosequin, but there are lots out there). There are others on here that have more experience with this that will be piping in. Shooter would have muscle spasms and I would massage until they disappeared. I also have a Back on Track dog coat that helps with muscle relaxation, but I think you need something more immediate.
Hang in there and keep us updated.
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
I agree with Shooter's Mom. Ask your vet for referrals to a veterinary acupuncturist or massage therapist, this should help in the meantime. Remember, one day at a time.

SEE ANOTHER VET!
The pain meds could be given at the wrong doseage, or may not have much affect. My first vet was under prescribing pain meds by HALF of what they should of been by weight. 2 Tramadol every 12 hours was nowhere near enough for an 84lb dog. Second vet bumped it up and said 2 every 6 hours was ok, and I could even go to 1 every 4hrs if he needed it.
Make the vet do the doseage math IN FRONT OF YOU and EXPLAIN IT.
When I finally convinced the old vet to try Meloxicam vs Previcoxx he didn't prescribe THAT right either (as I learned a week later).
If you go in and blindly trust a vet your dog can be the one who suffers. If you can't figure it out, then pay the $30-40 for another vet to go over the meds. When I saw the second vet I asked her if there would be any problem with the old vet not 'liking' the new doseage and she said most vets won't care... and that I should worry about TJ, not the vet.
I can't remember which meds you are on...you're not on pred, by any chance, are you? I do know that certain steroids can cause muscle weakness/wasting (so totally not "Ah vant to PUMP. YOU UP!" kind of steroids).
Definitely check out an acupuncturist and see if you can get that done. We've also had good luck with the laser and the TENS unit. Actually, I'd try that first, almost, if someone there has one.

Sassy didn't have these kinds of problems. But I agree try to seek another opinion or acupuncturist or massage therapist.

Just sending you ((((((((hugs)))))))) as I have no insight to offer. A second opinion is always a good idea as TJ discovered.
All the other suggestions sound great too. For now, jist keep on massaging as it sounds like that helps.......and then set up a massage appoi tment for you! You deserve it:-)

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
What meds is he on? Barret was on tramadol and rimadyl for the first 3 weeks after amp and gabapentin for 6 weeks (2 more weeks to go). The surgeon had him on a very low dose of tramadol, but the pain seemed so bad that when I checked in with my regular vet he increased the tramadol dose by 200% and added gabapentin. Tramadol has a very high range of dosage.
As my vet put it "Barret (a 20lb dog) could eat the whole bottle and probably not overdose. It is a very safe and effective drug, its just a matter of finding the right dosage for your pet".
Massage is great too. I think that the ebook on Tripawds, Loving Life On Three Legs has some techniques and excersizes you can use that might help.
Keep taking it one day at a time, Heather & Barret
Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog
