Well the Surgeon just called and Boomer is now recovering from her surgery which was an hour ago. The Vet said that it went well and that she is doing well. She should be able to come home either tomorrow evening or Saturday morning. Last night we went to the park by the river near our house and she ran and ran on her legs, she was so happy. I hope that she will be able to continue to romp at the park with 3 legs. Watch out rabbits , Boomer's coming back. I will post an update on her tomorrow. Many thanks for your kind words and thoughts.
Boomer and Ruben's Dad
Go Boomer!
The week before the surgery Charlie was only using his three good legs to walk around, EXCEPT when we went to the hospital for the appointments. Then he used all four with a gangsta' limp due to the adrenaline (and I'm sure the street cred) of being at a place with other dogs.
Boomer will totally be able to do it all with 3 legs. I'm thinking Charlie got faster due to it...
Wishing you and Boomer a speedy (oh, the pun hurts) recovery!

Hoping for a speedy recovery!!!

Jo Ann & Tasha
Tasha 8 years old, First cancer diagnosis 6/26/09, Last cancer diagnosis 9/26/09, Amputation 10/01/09, Loving our girl moment by moment.
Tasha lost her battle and became my Angel on May 4 2011. Forever in my heart….
Gus was walking three legged before surgery, and after he had no problems, I think you will be amazed at how well Boomer does after that first 2 weeks, Good luck, paws up for Boomer, Gus and Dan
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010
Good to hear Boomer is over the first hurdle and is doing well.
She will be romping at the park again, maybe just need to rest a little more. My pug Maggie worked back up to walking a mile or more on her own- and a mile at a time is a good distance for a quad-pug!
I'll be watching for the 'Boomer is Home' post.
Karen and the pug girls
Thanks for the update. You'll be able to romp at the park before you know it! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Excellent! Thanks for the update!
Boomer is going to run and run just like before. It will look different, but she is going to.
Like everyone said...REST!!! And we mean that! We see so many people get sleep deprived after the amputation and get very emotional. You're are going to need your head fresh to handle the recovery.
Lots of hugs!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
That's great news to hear that Boomer made it through her surgery OK! I know that you and Boomer will be so happy once she comes home... Just be prepared for those first 2 weeks which can be a little difficult... After that, it should be much better!
Angel Jake's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
That's great news!
Sending healing to Boomer and looking forward to the next update.
Daisy, 12 years young, had left forelimb amp on 5/19/2010 due to osteosarcoma. She left her body behind and joined the other spirit tripawds on 7/16/2010.
So grateful for each day with her!
Lexi (Daisy's momma)
So glad to hear that Boomer is doing well! And don't you worry, she'll be back on her feet in no time and she won't even know that she's missing a leg. All the best for a very speedy and smooth recovery. Keeping our paws crossed for Boomer - she'll do great - just you wait and see!
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Yay! Glad to hear that surgery is over.
This is totally my own personal opinion, but if it were me I would allow her to stay that extra night.....might really help with her recovery at home. Aside from some phantom pain issues, Shelby has been doing beautifully but now that she is on Gabepentin, I suspect those will cease or at least diminish.
Everyone is right...REST UP! When Boomer is home and sleeping....sleep. Trust me, I've only had Shelby home since Monday morning but everything everyone says is true. Rest, rest, rest.
And rejoice...that awful pain is GONE!

Like cometdog said, you really have to get your rest.
I can vouch for the getting totally overly emotional. I was a constant cry machine.
I try to get my rest and repeat this montra that my Mom told me………….."Every day, in every way, better and better."
Yea Boomer for getting past the surgery!
Hang in there, and yeah, you'll be absolutely amazed at how fast Boomer will get.
We have to run to keep up with Kona sometimes. It's incredible!
