Thats great to hear! Can you tell me how it went. Homer begins Saturday for osteosarcoma. He is getting 6 rounds of carboplatin, I think, every 3 weeks. The vet said that side effects are uncommon and usually mild, but I worry that he will be sick as a ... well - a dog.
Adding to the stress, we are leaving the country until the end of the month. The path came back today and the oncologist insisted we dont delay. So we are having a friend take him. Oh the pangs of anxiety. We dont want to do it without him but we don't want to delay treatment. Lucky to have good dog loving friends.
So congrats Mary and Blaze - I can't wait to be done too - assuming all goes well and we are hopeful but realistic at the same time.
Please do tell me how Blaze did. Any other experiences and chemo tips are also welcome at this time!
Congratulations! I remember that happy day well. It is like a weight lifted from your shoulders. It's only happy times ahead now! (Oh, I forgot, there will still be those random times that scare the pejeebers out of you - just to keep you on your toes!)

Homer630 mom, Blaze had four chemo sessions after his amp for osteosarcoma. He had surgery on December 23, 2014 to remove his front right leg. He was diagnosed in March of 2014 after very minor limping for two months. Because he had no mets we treated with pamidronate infusions once a month until October. A tech error caused the catheter to slip out of the vein and the med to infuse under the skin. His back leg and ankle were painfully swollen and infected for two months. Blaze was in tough shape with two very painful legs on his right side. We delayed a surgery decision until we knew his back leg was healed. By then the pain in his osteo leg was so sever he was simply dragging his knuckles.
The he decision to amputate was tougher than recovery. Blaze slept for two weeks. Gradually returning to normal. Chemo was carboplatin and he had NO side effects or issues! Next month he will have X-ray to look for lung mets. So far we have been blessed.
I know now you will be too!

Congrats, Blaze ! just a question, since Johnnie also is on the same path - OSA + carboplatin, about the oral chemo. What did your vet recommend? Johnnie's post-chemo protocol was set up by me, because the onco didn't suggest any further treatment, but I wish she had. It would give me more confidence.
Daniela & Johnnie
Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet. Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues. Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle. October 17: started having seizures. Taking fenobarbital for seizures. April 18: started prednisone.
Daniela our onc has recommended deramax or rimadyl plus chlorambucil. Blaze is on rimadyl now so I will talk to the vet about the benefits of each nonsteroidal anti inflammatory.
Chlorambucil concerns me because it is a powerful oral chemo therapy used to treat leukemia. It has a direct effect on the bone marrow to reduce rbc counts. It can also result in more severe blood cancers like acute myleo leukemia, aml, for which there is no cure. I have read that it is frequently used for osteo maintenance therapy however.
I hope Johnnie continues to do well.

I don't know how to paste photos here and have limited knowledge of my you tube account. But here is a video of Blaze and Jag wrestling in the house recently. Both boys have been critical I'll this past year. Blaze of course with osteo and Jag (who will be three tomorrow) with steroid responsive menningitis arteritis.
I hope this works!

Pawesome! Can we have permission to use this clip in a Tripawds compilation video we are putting together? No guarantees that we will, we're just gathering movies for now. Thanks!
