Some of you know I am worrying myself sick about having done the biopsy before amputation I have a mind set that I know spread his cancer faster. Any of you done biopsy before amputation and still have a dog that survived longer?

I believe if it was a fine needle aspirate that you have a very low chance (if any) of causing it to spread versus a biopsy. It's less trauma to the cells and you would have a lot less "break off" that can travel elsewhere. So really, please don't stress yourself worrying about your decision to do the biopsy! But, I really want an update on Bogi! Did you go through with the amputation that you had scheduled yesterday??

Awwwww Jamie, I certainly understand all too well ow one's mind can drive you crazy once the "worry wart monster" takes over!
And this place is the best proven treatment for "worry wartitis"!

Jessica is right---and with special emphasis on "if at all". I'm pretty sure it's been proven that fine needle aspirates don't compromise the prognosis AT ALL! It's certainly a procedure done on humans all the time! I real think that was an outdated belief years AFO that's pretty much been disproven.

I know a treatment that works for EVERYONE--------how 'bout a picture of that handsome Bogi? One where he's really happy and has a smile on is face and glistening eyes dancing with joy!

We're walking with you on this journey! You are not alone! We understand!

Wrapping you up in a great big tripawd hug of strength, courage and serenity!

Jamie
Sorry to hear that you received that diagnosis for Bogie but you are moving in a direction you feel you should for him. He is a wonderful dog with a big heart. Your doing everything you feel is best for him. He knows it also. We are thinking of you and Bogi and will be watching for updates on how he is doing. Our thoughts are with you.

Jamie, always remember that it's about quality of life not quantity. A dog has no concept of "time" or "days." If you can let go of that idea too, you will always live in the now and enjoy every moment together no matter how much time you get to spend with eachother.

We are wishing you and Bogi all the best today, keep us posted.

I had a fine needle aspiration done before Diesel's amputation, then had to wait a week for the results. The vet who did the biopsy thought my dog would do poorly with an amputation, so I did not initially proceed with surgery. When I followed up with my regular vet and he gave me hope, I went ahead with the surgery. At the time of surgery, the bone was in pieces- which I think was from the FNA. My boy was obviously in pain during that time, even on the pain meds. I definitely can relate to your worries of seeding the cancer throughout your dogs body with a biopsy or FNA, but I don't think it is that simple - case in point, Diesel is still hanging in there at the 1 year mark.

I hope your guy had an uneventful surgery and has a speedy recovery. Hang in there...
