OH Christina! We are incredibly shocked and sorry, this is terrible and so heartbreaking.  There aren't enough words to convey our sadness for you, this is something that we never, ever expect to happen. I know your heart is shattered right now and feels totally irreparable. Allow yourself to grieve and process this, it will take time and we will be here for you as best we can OK?

For now, please remember that you gave Darby a chance at life and when he left this world, he knew how much he was loved. There is no greater gift than feeling so cherished, you gave that to him and his soul went on knowing he was a part of your family. What a gift.

I wish I could help more right now. Please, call the Tripawds Helpline if you want to talk OK? And do share stories in Coping with Loss about Darby's beautiful life with you when you can, we would love to hear about your sweetie.

{{{{hugs}}}}

STUNNED TO HEAR THIS!!  I am sorry beyond words.  Sick and heartbroken doesn't even begin to cover it We are crying with you tonight.

It's major surgery, and just like any surgery with humans too, there already. It is so very rare when something like this happen, it does. Every single one of us here all willing to take that risk for a chance to give our dogs and cats pain free life. This stupid piece of crap disease puts uis in situations where we have to make really hard choices. You made a decision out of love for your precious Darby. Without question, this is a decision that every single one of us here would have made. And as I said, even though  rare, sometimes these decisions take sickening turn and the worst case scenario happens. It could  be a sign of an underlying issue that was not obvious from all of the preliminary workout. It could mean that that piece of crap disease spread in ways that no one1 ever knew. It's possible that if Darby survived the operation, what could have been awaiting him during recovery would have been painful brutal if this disease progress further than anyone knew..

I know I'm rambling and not making any sense. There are no words that can be said right now to help alleviate the  pain you are going through.  I  can only say over and over again that you had to do everything possible to give Darby a chance at a pain free life. To not have done so would not have been fair to darby. Darby wanted this chance. I'm just so very very very sorry and I, like everyone here, would give anything 4 different result for you

I'm coming back, but I just wanted to reach out to you as quickly as I possibly could. Again, there is nothing we can do or say to make any of this any better. We can only tell you that we understand the depth of your love for Darby. because it takes a lot of courage and a lot of love to make the decisions that we have to make because of this piece of crap disease.

When you can, we want to hear more about your beautiful Darby, your heart dog. The memories you share can never be taken away from you and the love you and Darby had for each other will be eternal and can never be dimmed.  please stay connected with us. Please. We are your family and we understand like no others can.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

We all feel so helpless and so inadequate right now.  We can only stand by you right now and help hold you up as you crumble.   All of the "what ifs" will play over and over in yiur mind for awhile.   PLEASE know that there is NOTHING to second quess.  This piece of crap disease   makes up its own rules and does what it wants when it wants.   We can only do exactly what you did, do what it takes to try and beat this disease.

Darby, your heartdog will always be with you.  Look for his signs.

With love

Thank you for the outpouring of care and support. It actually makes me feel good in that Darby has others out there sending him love. The cloud photo above is amazingly perfect. After I found out Darby was gone, I laid on the back deck where Darby liked to sun himself and watched the sunset. I cried and prayed and prayed. Then a cloud came into focus and no kidding, it looked like Darby lying down and he had four legs. I watched the cloud till it drifted away and disentigrated. I felt somehow Darby was letting know he's okay and he has four legs again and he was saying goodbye.

I am completely wrecked, can't eat, can't sleep, can't seem to move. I hurt all over. I just hold his collar. Thank you again for all the well wishes for Darby and myself, it means the world to me.

Sally, I don't know how to upload pictures here. I did make a little tribute video I'd love to share. I can send it email or text, if you are okay with that.

I don't know how to upload pictures here.

Here are detailed instructions for adding photos to forum posts . If you don't already share photos online somewhere, you can start a free Tripawds blog any time and upload them there. Need further help? Post in the Tech Support forum and we'll be happy to help!

I did make a little tribute video I'd love to share.

The easiest way to share videos is to upload them to Youtube (Or Vimeo). Then you can just paste the Share link and the video will auto-embed in your post.

Hope this helps!

I would really like to see your video. Please hang out here a while, you'll be in good company. If nothing else, this group of people have made their furbabies a real part of their families, myself included. I can tell you for myself that I do understand some of what you are going through and feeling. I have lost loved ones very close to me and they will always have a place in my heart that is theirs alone.

FWIW, I bought a book about how our pets communicate with us from the Bridge. One of the ways it specifically mentions is through cloud formations. Sounds like Darby has already learned how to do that to let you know he's OK.
