Baxter had his surgery today. Our little guy is doing well so far. The vet said Baxter was already sitting up in the kennel- not very steadily, but sitting up none the less. We probably will be able to bring him home Monday.
I'm releaved it's finally done. Now we can concentrate on getting him up and going. I'll keep everyone posted on how he's doing.
Good boy, Baxter! Rest up Baxter's People - especially while he's still with the vet. It's not easy, but it's probably easier now than it'll be when he comes home You've got a rough time ahead, but it's temporary!
Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.
Videos and pics of Gerry's pawesomeness can be found at: http://gerry.tripawds.com
Hooray for the surgery being over with! That's a big step out of the way. Now you just gotta get through the recovery period. It's usually about 12-15 tough days, although some dogs do better, some take a little longer.
Hopefully he'll recover well! Rest up before he gets home!!
Keep us posted,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
good to hear the surgery is done. get some rest, then get some more rest. paws crossed for smooth sailing through the healing process!!
charon & gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
Wonderful news for Baxter!
I have no doubts he'll do great even though waiting until Monday will be torture!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
I'm so glad to hear Baxter is doing well! The extra time at the vet will be good for him (and a good time for you to rest up for the next leg of the journey....OK, bad pun) Anyway, keep us posted and of course feel free to post any questions.

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

We're thinking of you and sending you really happy thoughts and best wishes for a speedy recovery. We hope your healing is fast and drama-free. GOOD LUCK!!! If you have questions, we'll be here!

Glad to hear his surgery went well. And good news about the extra nights at the vet. Sure you will miss him a lot, but great chance for the staff to get his pain meds adjusted and to have trained professionals help him get used to 3 legs.
My Rumbles was in the hospital 3 days. I'm always in awe when I read about dogs who go home the morning after surgery.
Hi everyone!
Sat/day 2 update: Baxter is doing well! The vet took him outside and Baxter was able to walk around and go potty by himself. The incision is draining, but there's very little swelling/bruising- so far.
The vet keeps telling me to be prepared for it to look shocking and bad, so I'm trying to prepare myself before I see him Monday. I don't want him to pick up on anything negative in my behavior.
I think one of the hardest things will be to keep the other two dogs from aggrivating him for a while.
I truly appreciate all of ya'll kind words and encouragement!! I am so thankful to have found this
forum. I really feel better knowing I have a place to ask questions.
The scar isn't pretty but if you look into his eyes and give him all of your love, you won't even notice it.
We're thankful you found us too. Every story here contributes to the whole and gives us all the strength we need to get through ruff times, and celebrate the good ones.
Rest up!

Good to hear Baxter is making progress!
You might want to look at some post amp pictures to prepare yourself- you can find some HERE. Just scroll down to Surgery and Treatment pics.
When you go to get him just focus on his eyes and how happy he is to see you. The new body might take awhile to get used to, but the important part of Baxter- his heart- is intact.
My dad kept my other pug for me for a few days so Maggie could get used to things without interruption. As it turns out I think they would have been fine together from the start. Putting them back together after days apart led to a scuffle which we really didn't need, caused by my younger pug always wanting to be alpha. After that they were fine together.

So I looked at the surgery/treatment pictures- hard, but I needed that. What brave and amazing
fur-babies these are! I just want to help Baxter in any way I can and being a cry baby isn't the way. So, I'm crying now, for all your sweeties, hoping I can be as brave as they've been, as brave and strong as my little Baxter needs me to be, as strong as he is. I'm going to concentrate on his tiny, sweet, little face and we will be ok.
