You are a cutie 🙂 I am so sorry to hear about your set back. I'm sure you will get through your surgery fine but I'll have my paws crossed for you any way.
My pawrents struggled with the decision to amputate my leg too. I acted just fine, limping on occasion, but otherwise my good old happy self. I didn't want them to worry about me if I told them how much pain I was really in. They found out about 3 miles from the hospital on the day of my scheduled surgery because my cancerous leg broke.
Thursday will be 2 weeks since my surgery and I am hopping along just fine. I'll let you know about that chemo stuff though.
Thinking about you and your pawrents! Let us know how you are doing.

Awww Bauer, we're so sorry. Dang, that must feel terrible. We hope you feel better soon. Many good thoughts coming your way for a successful surgery. Keep us posted OK?

Oh my gosh....poor Bauer...what's the saying "if it weren't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all"....I feel so badly for you...hope he does OK with the surgery and can move onward to the amputation..
Thinking of you..

I am sorry to hear about the set back.
I know from recent experience how overwhelming multiple problems can be. You were probably just coming to grips with the amputation...
Mysuggestion is to step back and prioritize your worry if you can- hugely easier said than done I know. Focus on the immediate problem and get Bauer as healthy as possible from today's surgery. Then you can look at the next step.
Know that you are doing the best you can for Bauer, and that we are all here for advice, information, and support. Let us know what you need.

Oh so sorry to hear about Bauer's set back. Hope he gets through this surgery ok and you're able to find out what's going on. As Karen said, it's taking it one step at a time. You are in our thoughts and we wish you and Bauer the best for a smooth and speedy recovery.
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Oh poor Bauer. Nothing like being kicked when you're already down. This must be overwhelming but as has already been wisely said, all you can do is take one step and one problem at a time. Sending many healing wishes to Bauer.

Bauer's parents- so sorry to hear he's not feeling well. And with you all prepared for tomorrow. I had to reschedule Connor's surgery for a week after agonizing about it all the first week, then having to wait & agonize another week! I hope he feels better soon, and that the surgery goes well. We are 5 days post-op and it's looking like the right decision for us. Just wanted to let you know the only advice I have here- Keep in mind the first night is the scariest- this is not necessarily because he's in pain. They have a rough time getting over the anesthesia, just like you would. It really makes them act wierd, they can kindof hallucinate, or just wake up scared. Just be close to him & try to keep him calm. Take a nap before you pick him up! I didnt sleep at all the first night.
Awww Bauer! I'm so sorry to hear about your tummy.
I'm sure your pawrents are worried, as we are too! So, tell them to be sure to keep us updated.
Sending you lots and lots of wuv!

So they found that Bauer had a perforated duodenum (intestine just beyond the stomach). The surgeon said that it appeared to have been pretty recent, no obvious signs that it was cancer related. He said when he debrided the wound area that blood flow was good (a great sign). It was in a pretty precarious place (right near the bile duct), so if it fails to hold, the prognosis isn't great. Within 3 days we should know if the repair is holding, and another couple days after that to see whether there was cancer at the lesion. It's possibly a result of the Deramaxx that he'd been on for a couple weeks since his first episode when the mast cell tumor on his foot swelled up, despite the Pepcid he's been on concurrently.
He's an inpatient for a couple days. We'll have to see how the surgery works and how the pathology looks before we plan his next steps.
Thanks to everybody for your support. It means a lot to us.
Oh Bauer, that must be so painful. Ouch.
For the next three days we will be on pins and needles waiting to find out the news. Our paws are crossed for a good, strong recovery. Lotsa love coming your way, hang in there.

Hi Bauer,
so sorry to hear that you are not great right now – I sincerely wish that all goes well – I actually had a very similar situation to you. My amputation was delayed due to an additional op beforehand – it seemed like one thing after another. Mum and dad were so worried and undecided what to do for the best. It sounds like you're making the right decisions – I know we did – and 2 years on have no regrets whatsoever. I do hope Bauer gets through all this – it sounds like he is due his share of good luck about now. If it helps to read our story see 'Thanks from Max' – under the story section.
Our paws are crossed for you,
Best wishes Maxwell

Great day for Bauer today. His bowel surgery seems to have gone well. I visited today and walked him briefly until we were all tangled up in IV lines. He was pulling against his harness, always a good sign (and I am optimistic this strength will make him adaptable to his upcoming amputation). The vet called to update that he's eating and they'll be able to take him off his IV this evening. It's still a couple days until we can safely assume the bowel has healed and see pathology from the bowel lesion.
Thanks again everybody for your support.
