Good news! I have tried a lot of the massage techniques and they are working! I do them if we are sitting on the floor watching tv and he falls asleep so it must feel good. Now when he gets up and starts to yelp, I just have him lean on me and start to massage his neck and spine and around his incision, and the yelping stops immediately. Then when I stop massaging, he's wagging his tail and ready to go. I am so relieved I found something that works, and hopefully soon he won't be having the pains anymore. Thanks so much for all of the advice, we go back to the vet tomorrow for staple removal and then hopefully we get the go ahead for normal activity, and then crossing my fingers the pains will stop altogether! Thanks again everyone, such a relief for me to watch him healing after what felt like weeks of pain.

OH YAY! I'm so hoppy for you both, this is pawesome news! Best wishes at the vet clinic. Be sure to let them know what you discovered.

If you ever feel like writing a guest blog post about it, PM me, I know everyone here would love to read it (and it would help others in the future). Thanks!

This is such great news! I'm so glad the massaging helps! And it's such a close bonding time too. I know recovery feels like It lasts forever when you're in the middle of it. But when you see the pain subside and the sparkle come back, it is such a HUGE relief!

Pay attention for any signs of pain if you stop the meds per the vet. My Happy Hannah (125 lb Bull Mastiff) needed her meds at a reduced dose during the third week.

Soooooo glad you see this update! Big smiles going on over here!! 🙂

Hugs!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Thank you everyone for caring about my pup, it means the world when I log in and see all of the kind words and thoughts about Apollo feeling better! He went from yelling every time he got up yesterday, to only doing it 3 times today... 3 TIMES!!! He has been doing it between 5-10 times every day! I am so thankful he is starting his uphill jump from his surgery, I cried I was so happy! Hopefully it keeps getting better, I am just amazed it was almost an overnight transformation. Thank you to everyone for the massage advice, I think that really helped a lot, and he loves it! We will be going to the vet tomorrow morning for staple removal as long as all looks well, and hopefully just keep getting better! Thanks again everyone! heart

So glad you found something to help!  I bet he will feel much better tomorrow when the staples come out- it seems to be a turning point for many pups.

I am sooo glad to hear the gorgeous Apollo (named for a golden god - so appropriate) is improving and you are feeling more positive!  Onward!!

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.
