Hello! Our Stella goes in tomorrow for her amputation surgery. I understand she is likely to need a cone until the sutures come out in 10-14 days. She was miserable the past time she had a cone!
Any feedback on cone alternatives? Someone recommended the Kong Cloud (reminds me of a neck pillow for a long flight) and I'm wondering if anyone has tried it.
Or, with wearing a t shirt, did you find the cone was less necessary?
Extra cuddles tonight! Tomorrow night we'll feel lonely without her here, but we'll be happy to bring her home Weds and begin recovery. Thanks!

Yes, you will find many cone of shame alternatives in the Tripawds Gear blog !
While a T-shirt can help keep the incision site clean, it is rarely enough to help protect the wound from inevitable licking.

For Rocky, if I left him home alone (which didn't happen often) I'd use the cone. As long as I was home with him, I just used a t-shirt. I actually went and bought him a couple of kids shirts.

Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.
He is the toughest, bravest, sweetest and best friend I'll ever know.
I hope Stella is doing well! Personally we didn’t use a cone or tshirt. I brought Snoopy a tshirt and they put in on after surgery. But the night nurse said it was hindering him. So we removed it. She also didn’t use a cone on him. I tried the tshirt again once he was home but agreed it wasn’t beneficial to him. I guess it really depends on Stella and how she behaves and reacts to the situation. Snoopy is very docile and never tried once to get at the stitches.
If you look at my signature picture, this is what we used - it's clothy and looks like a cape/graduation gown as someone mentioned here, and it covers the incision and is thick enough that he couldn't lick it. We also put a compression shirt on him. He looked comfortable during his initial 2 week recovery period.
