Has anyone had their Tripawd on Dasatinib? I posted in other threads on our 6 year old dobie Kaiser's amputation and chemo and Yale vaccine treatments. Kaiser received his final round of carboplatin yesterday 1/6/25 and is doing well, bloodwork is normal and no lung mets. He has a chest xray next month and the onco vet suggested Dasatinib as a targeted maintenance treatment option. We are trying to decide if we should pursue this treatment option or wait to see how he is doing over the next few months and then get the Yale vaccine booster at 10 months. Any advice/support would be helpful such as experience with side effects, efficacy etc. Thanks again for all your support and advice!

So Dasatinib has been mentioned here in the Forums a few times, but usually as a last ditch effort when mets are present. In this case your oncologist is suggesting it as a preventive, right?
I see it's been around in doc cancer therapy since about 2010. But other than this Colorado State Study "A case study of personalized therapy for osteosarcoma," which was done in part by one of our favorite oncologists Dr. Bernard Seguin (the study is also mentioned here), I really don't see it as being widely used in this way. At least not from my quick internet search and in 17 years of history in our own forums.
Some good questions to ask your oncologist might be:
- how many dogs similar to Kaiser's case have you tried this on, and what was their response?
- how is the response to Dasatnib as opposed to the Yale vaccine alone? what have you experienced in your own patients?
- What kind of side-effects might be possible?
- Can you point me to any other studies that show it's promise?
I'd love to know more too so be sure to report back on what they say.
Thanks so much for the quick response and questions to ask our oncologist. She suggested it as a preventative option for us and referenced the Colorado State study. She said some of her patients have experienced mild side effects; loss of appetite, nausea. diarrhea, but is usually rectified with lowering the dosage. I'll keep you posted once we ask more questions and if we decide to pursue this preventative treatment option.
