Karen and the pugapalooza
Still no more episodes of what happened last week. the doctor's report says that his heart size is normal, that there is mildly decreased function when compared to a normal dobermans (and dobermans have lower heart function than other breeds). There are small segments that are not functioning as well and more of a moderate (as opposed to mild) decrease in function has happened in those parts. She didn't think that these decreases would lead to episodes of weakness or collapse though. She does want him taken off of the adriamycin though. So tomorrow I talk to the oncologist about the new plan. He is due for his 3rd treatment in his first 3 week cycle - this one will be vincristine. I have a friend who is an oncology pharmacy rep and she said that at least in humans, vincristine can cause nerve damage that would cause problems with walking. sometimes it is reversible, some times it isn't. I'm definitely going to ask the oncologist about this tomorrow before we go forward with the next dose of vincristine on Thursday!
Talking to my mom, she said that the falls earlier last week she really can't say if they were falls or weakness of some sort. But on Friday - the day after his first dose of vincristine - he had the 3 episodes that were definitely his legs just going out and the last one she said she couldn't tell if he kind of fainted or if his legs just went out. But for all 3 of those it was definitely not that he fell due to tripping or stepping in some sort of hole.
Anyway, he hasn't had any problems with unexplainable falls since Friday. he did fall once today and once yesterday; but both were slips on slick flooring.
I'll update again tomorrow after I talk to the oncologist.
Jac and Angel Spencer. Spencer was 5.25 years old. He fought a grade 3 fibrosarcoma, started on his shoulder. Left front leg amputated in August 2011. 15 weeks of chemo finished 12/22/11 (mytox and adria). Lung mets found on x-rays 12/28/11. Started carboplatin 1/6/12. Went to Heaven on 2/27/12. I miss him like crazy every day. See his blog here: http://spencer.tripawds.com/
Sending lots of good wishes to Spencer...hopefully it's nothing too serious.
