Hi All!

Lucy was doing really well with a bit of a spark coming back into her eyes and a pep in her hop. Today she isn’t feeling it.

We adjusted to every 12 hours for her GABA and it is almost out (they gave us a 10 day supply). No obvious pain signals except for a bit of a tucked tail when trying to make her do something she doesn’t want to do like go inside or go in her hospital cage. She wasn’t super interested in her breakfast, but did pull the kibble and sardines out, so it is very possible she doesn’t like the latest batch of home made food I made. I’m hoping she is just having an off day or doesn’t even need the gaba now, thoughts?

She gets her stitches out on Thursday yay!

Hmm. That she is eating something is a really good sign. If she was not eating at all I'd be concerned. Hate to say it but maybe it is your cooking? lol!

The tail tuck is interesting. If she's not doing it any other time then yeah, it's probably just a behavior quirk at this point in recovery, but good to mention to your vet just in case.

Usually when stitches come out, a new Tripawd turns the corner. Just a couple of days!

We think we figured it out. Her back legs seem to be really painful. It seems difficult for her to walk and hold her weight. We see the vet tomorrow, but we are very worried. She was doing so well and now she has nose dived. She will drink water, but wouldn’t eat dinner. Any advice or similar experience?

Poor pup. Dumb question but did you check to look for any kind of pressure sore, or even a thorn that might be stuck? Ya never know.

I know it's hard not to panic. But just know that there have been many Tripawds members in similar situations, and I'll tell ya, the vast majority were easily treatable and managed. Ninety nine percent of the time, the worst case scenario that we imagine doesn't happen. So, stay calm and know that she's getting great care and this issue will get figured out. Keep us posted OK?

A pupdate on Lucy:

She was moving much better today! No sores or anything. She went to the oncologist and he had her surgeon evaluate her and take her stitches out. Everything looks great! Still didn’t want to eat much, but ate some yogurt. Drs say it could be from the gaba and to stop it. She is also starting her first round of chemo today. Will update how she handles that. We did get baby food and store bought fresh dog food, so we’re hoping to get some food in her today!

I know you are so relieved!  We love reading this good update and celebrate  with you as Lucy continues  to get off this recovery roller coaster and get on solid ground!

Yeah, whatever she will eat is the goal right now.  Cheeseburgers, roasted chicken, steak...whatever it takes!!

And YAY for stitches out!!!  That calls for a scoop of ice cream!!

Lucy was a champ during chemo and is now at home and happily resting on the couch. She said it was a long 2 weeks with no couch time!

This made me so hoppy last night when we chatted. YAY! Lucy is kickin' some butt and taking names. Look out cancer! She'll be done with chemo before you know it.

Keep us posted on how she does without the gabapentin. How is she walking today?

She is doing better today. Walking a little slow still but tail is no longer tucked! She is willing to eat (I did hand feed her this morning) and drink. We are going to try several small meals throughout the day because she has become pretty skinny. I got some major tail wags when I brought out some toys! That made me soooo happy! The nausea seems to have subsided, but last night was a bit rough. Her nose was running (could have been from the meds, weather or nausea) and she kept licking her lips off and on all night because of that. She is crashed out getting some good sleep right now. Paws crossed this is the worse she’ll feel from the chemo.

All sounds good! 👍👍

Yeah, small meals, hand feeding, whatever it takes!  No worries about dripping nose....could be any of those things you mentioned, or just a "thing" for no rhyme  or reason.

TAIL WAGS AND EXCITED  SEEING HER TOYS....AS WELL AS RECLAIMING  HER COUCH..........Grinning ear to ear over here!-😁😁😁

More smooches, give that pretty head more smooches for us😘😘

YEAH! This is a good update, and I hope the nausea is gone by now. Did the Cerenia finally kick in?

I think it did. She’s been willing to eat and drink today and isn’t doing the lip licking like she was last night.

YIPEE! That's so cool. I love it when a prescription does exactly what it's supposed to.
