I bet he's home!!!! He's home!!!
Getting that painful leg off is a wonderful gift. It can be a hard decision to make and sometimes one hard not to regret esp when going thru recovery. You're facing a few tough weeks with some days that may be worse than others. Stay strong! Come back and check in! We're here. He will return to all his glorious self soon enough. He may be better than before w/o that pain holding him back!
Take a little comfort, too, as these cancers *tend* to move more slowly in older dogs. So his age + clear lungs may very well mean you get your country-pup for many more months. Welcome to Tripawd Nation.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
He really is doing awesome! When I was kneeling down he hugged me with his remaining paw just like he used to and when we got home he put his paw up on the counter. I thought that food was going to be safe now but I was wrong. Dogs are just amazing!! I mean I already knew this before but not to this extent. I am so relieved that the surgery is over and I hope that he continues to do this well.
Xrays taken Jan 31, 2014, Osteosarcoma biopsy results Feb 10, 2014, Amputation Feb 17, 2014, Happy and healthy until June 2015 when a hip tumor started to form, passed away Aug 22, 2015. 18 months past amputation is pretty remarkable for this miracle dog!
Wow! Such great news, Dayna! You must be so relieved to have the surgery behind you, have it go so well, and have your puppy home. Thanks for keeping us all updated.
Charlie, our English yellow lab, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in February 2014. He became a tripawd on February 24th, with clear lymph nodes and lungs, but that didn't last long. After three doses of Carbo, in May 2014, x-rays showed lung mets. We briefly tried Palladia, which went well. Unfortunately, Charlie developed unexplained complications in his hind limbs. We said a reluctant farewell on June 11, 2014. Still miss our boy each and every day.
Yipeee! That is so great to hear! Once that surgery is behind you it's a real relief. There are many many life lessons that happen because of this awful situation, it's so hard to see them at first but you're sure doing a great job at being an excellent student.
Meanwhile yes, front-leg Tripawds can still counter surf and jump up on people & things, while rear leggers can't do these feats quite as well as they used to!

Glad to hear that Bailey is doing so well
Remember that he may have some ups and downs over the next couple of weeks and that this is a great place to vent/express your fears/worry out loud etc.
Tuck is celebrating his five month ampuversary today and he has done and continues to do wonderfully!
I found with Tuck that slow and steady was the best approach....our first walks were after his stitches were removed two weeks post amp (as per the surgeon's directions) and then we only went down the street a few houses and back.
Bailey will continue to amaze you!
Hugs
Linda and Tucker
Thanks for all of the support! He really does amaze me. I notice that he seems to be in a bit more pain first thing in the morning but seems to do really well for the rest of the day. He is even starting to get the hang of squatting more rather than lifting his leg.
