Day 2 post op 546
Just lifted Daisy out into the garden in her bed as bit restless .. sure enough hopped a bit and did pee, poop 💩 and had a drink … so very very proud of her .. such a brave girl. Going to pop to vet when they open as think she’s needs an add on medication as discussed with GP yesterday but baby steps x
Hope everyone else is ok on here , thinking of you all
Ohhhh I'm so happy to see Daisy's photos! Thank you Sally!
Yes, I'm Rene. Thanks for ordering the book, hope you find it useful.
I'm sorry I forgot to assist with the pics, I meant to do that. Sally is priceless isn't she?
So YAY that you are a nurse! That's GOOD! You know what you're doing better than most of us here. I'm glad you are in communication with the vet about her pain relief. They sound very reasonable and willing to re-evaluate as needed. WAY TO ADVOCATE!
I hope the coming day brings more relief and recovery. Please keep us posted. It's bedtime here but I'll check in tomorrow to see how things are going.
Hi Rene
Being a nurse pales into insignificance on here … all of you guys are the experts in this field and we will always be truly grateful to have been put in touch with you all by our Vet.
You must have spent so much time and effort in setting it all up , hats off to you
Sleep 💤 well x
Thank you
Question! I know I’m thinking ahead but was wondering about a quad wheelchair for Daisy as she’s lost her front right leg .. grateful for any opinions on this ? It’s 2315 here so forgive me if I don’t respond today to any feedback.. many thanks again 😊
Awww...so glad sweet little Daisy had a good check up. She IS a brave Tripawd Warrior😎.
Many here find a stroller beneficial. It's a tool to let Daisy go on ,longer walks, but hop in the stroller before she tires then hop out...go back in stroller, etc,etc... Everyone who uses the stroller says their dogs take to it quickly and thoroughly enjoy being pushed around in their Royal Carriage .
Just put this in the FWIW column, okay ? Jerry will have m uch better jnput abput wheelchairs. I can think of a couple of members who tried a wheelchair for their tripawd as they aged and got bad arthritis. (Meg ) They found them difficult and timely to get them fitted properly and not something their dogs took to very readily.
Give Daisy extra smooches and a few extra treats. Brave girls deserve extra treats!!

Hi Sally
Thank you for your advice
Sorry don’t really know where you mean to post my query , would you mind copying and pasting it if you can please ? Thank you
The reason I’ve mentioned a wheelchair is that seems suggested for front leg amputee rather than a stroller ? but I’m a novice in all of this so I could be wrong ?
Many thanks
Julie, I think by the "FWIW column" Sally just meant, take this for what it's worth (FWIW).
Most Tripawds don't need wheelchairs, except maybe as they get into advanced senior years. The first thing to try is rehab therapy, because you really want her to strengthen and condition before putting her in a chair, which will make her weaker before she has a chance to get strong. That's one reason we really encourage folks to see a physiotherapist before buying any kind of devices (which are really pricey and typically non-refundable). These experts can evaluate her needs now, and later as she ages. Most times they recommend waiting for a chair until it's really necessary.
We do like dog strollers for Tripawds (prams) because they can get the dog outside walking a little, riding a little, and you always have a way to get her into the world. They are incredible! And yes, they make them for big and small dogs alike!
How is Daisy doing today?
Ah … I understand
Daisy is 10.5years old and I absolutely understand what you are saying .
I guess I was just thinking of , at a much later date ,of trying to help her do what you had done previously… ie going out a little with our other dog.
Maybe I need to be thinking stroller rather than wheelchair ?
Our vet has advised to wait to do physio at later date .
Daisy has had a sleepy day .. slight sickness x 1 this am , so cut out a dose of a med and has been fine since . She’s still got her spirit and attempted the sifa with a ramp of cushions ! 😬
Thank you for asking and advice .
Thank you so much for your encouragement and support.
I think I’m guilty of planning ahead ! as wanting her to have a great life ahead of her.
Dressing came off today but wound looks great and she seems happy so will just keep an eye . Abandoned idea of onesie as she wasn’t keen .. got some spare dressings incase.
oh yes , any experience of “ phantom pains “ vet didn’t seem to think this would be likely but she yelped today , no one near her, nothing touching the wound, just standing up ? so just was wondering about it ?
Many thanks 😊
Clearly Daisy has a "great life" NOW, and will continue to do so, because she is with a family that adores her💖
Phantom limb pain usually occurs out of the blue. The dog will jump up and try and run away from the pain. It last less than a minute, but so etimes the dog will shake and cower for another minute or so jist afraid to move. The brain is still firing off messages to nerve endings that no longer have a leg to capture the message. Supposedly it's kind of like a quick "electric jolt". GABAPENTIN is the prescribed ned IF that's what happened.
She merely may have just had an "oowwie" from a stitch twist or poke, something like that. Probably if it was phantom limb pain it would jave been more dramatic.
You're doing a great job of caring for Faisy....and she's doing a great job of navi through recovery 👏👏
