Well, today is the big day!
I finally got the call at 1:30, Alexander is out of surgery and doing great! He is in ICU, and we can see him tomorrow! I cannot wait to get some big slobby kisses and see those big brown eyes again....

Yeah, that is terrific news! If you haven't done so, you may want to look at pictures of an amputation site. I did it prior to picking up Skyler, and it helped me to prepare for what I would see.
Paws are crossed, tails are wagging! Keep us posted.

Get some slobby kisses for us too! Yeay!
Great advice Cathy. Our Tripawds Gallery has post-surgery photos in the Treatment Gallery.

Hooray! I agree with the recommendations to look at some photos - it turns out that Ajax actually looked better than I expected when I picked him up, but I was glad to be prepared.
Now just relax and enjoy awaiting his homecoming. And I recommend followong the advice of all on this site who said to make sure the slippery floors are covered in places he normally goes. I know there are some recommendations for cheap floor rugs somewhere on this site, and I have also found yoga mats work great, especially in hallways. And you can use the more inexpensive ones.
Yay Xander!
and Yay for slobby kisses.
He'll be so glad to see you!
Hope his recovery goes smoothly.

Tasha 8 years old, First cancer diagnosis 6/26/09, Last cancer diagnosis 9/26/09, Amputation 10/01/09, Loving our girl moment by moment.
Tasha lost her battle and became my Angel on May 4 2011. Forever in my heart….
Great news! We wish you and Alexander all the best for a speedy and smooth recovery. Just know that when you lay your eyes on your boy for the first time and when he hops out to you for the first time, you'll be so amazed - those will be tears of joy flowing down your cheeks. We will be keeping our paws crossed that everything goes great for Alexander!
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Awww! That's a great relief! Thanks for the update!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Wonderful news!!! I'll bet you can't wait to bring Alexander home tomorrow... Be prepared for a little shock... but it will soon pass. He will just be minus his bad/painful leg... the rest of your sweetie will still be there!!!
Angel Jake and Wolfie's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Thanks for all the great thoughts!!! I am anxious to callthe vets office again to see how he is doing, he was still sedated post-op when I last spoke to them. I am going to wait until after nightly rounds to call....don't want to be the crazy mom!

Hi Xander's mom,
If there is a Home Depot near you, let me let you in on the best thng since sliced bread as far as *cheap* non-slip runners. Home Depot has a huge roll of rubber matting that is roughly $2/foot. They'll cut it to your specifications and of course when you get home, you can cut it yourself to fit whatever you need.
It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it WORKS! (And it's cheap)
Also at Big Lots, back in the automotive department, they have 4' x 9' anti-fatigue rubber mats.
It's all uphill from here on.....trust me!
That is great news! I am so glad both of our pups faired well today. Keep us posted on his progress and I will do the same with Malachi.
P.S. Thanks for the tip on floor mats shelbysmom. I think I will run by Home Depot tomorrow before work and check them out.
