It's just a downer day. Daughter's temp went back up so I stayed home while Steve visited Reign. She was really out of it for him but didn't seem to be in any pain. She wanted nothing to do with the food he brought and pretty much just laid on him. No tail wags or walking while he was there.I know after bandage change they give her some extra pain meds plus she's still on her tramadol every 8 hours so i knew she would be out of it. The tech said Reign pooped on her hand earlier so I'm thinking she wasn't one of her favorites. Doctor said bandage change went really well and she liked what she saw. She still thinking Monday.

We called for our 10pm check in ( I'm such a creature of habit) and the tech said she was a little bit more awake but didn't want anything to do with food and pretty much just wanted to lay there. She said Reign seemed sad. Knife straight to my heart crying she also referred to Reign's earlier poop as diarrhea...

Steve works all day tomorrow and  my daughter's temp broke for 3 hours earlier but it's on the rise again so it's looking like I won't see her tomorrow. I just want her healthy, healing and home.

Geez, this stream of bad luck needs to start turning into good luck! I can certainly ijnderstand whynyou are feeling a bit "down".

Rather than sad, Reign was probably feeling just a little bit irritated at having to stay there and still a bit loopy from drugs. I know that hutprt when the vet tech said "sad" though.

The antibiotics could be giving her a bit of diarrhea.

One thing that you may mention to your vet is giving Reign fluids! Fluids have done wonders for dogs during recovery when they aren't showing any "perkiness" and not showing interest in food. Not a vet but would certainly push for that! Reign doesn't have a fever, right?

You do have some good news...the incision is looking better and better! I'm glad Steve got to go see her. She knew he was there even if she didn't act like it.

It looks like Reign and your daughter are having "sympathy pains" for each other!

Come Reign, you and your "sister" get rid of this bug and start feeling better NOW!!

Cheering for you both! Sending lots andllts of healing hugs and all the best wishes for a healthy homecoming by Monday, if not before!!clap

Thanks we do just need to have some good luck around here. I'm just having a lot of frustration with her recovery which I know is normal and I'm sure Reign is feeling the same. Tuesday will be 2 weeks since this all started, I just think all of the ups and downs have worn me out.

Since an IV started all of this her doctor doesn't want to put another IV in unless it's absolutely necessary. She loves her water and has been drinking by herself very well  so they/we aren't worried about her being dehydrated. They have been watching her vitals all already because during the dental the vet said her blood pressure was all over the place. They've said her temp was up a little 1 day last week but she had just come in from being outside. When they took it again an hour later it was back to normal.

I am praying that she is just in a funk. I'm just getting nervous about her coming home again. I've compared it to bringing a baby home from the hospital. We don't know how she will sleep, eat or go to the bathroom. This time my husband is at least off from work for a couple days so I won't be without help this time. I'm waiting for my morning update so I'm praying they will have some good news for us.

Today was a MUCH better day in my household. It's been 16 hours since the last time my daughter's temp was up! This was a nasty virus. It took 4 days but I think it's over!!

My check up phone calls for Reign were much better too! We weren't able to speak with the doctor since she had quite a few emergency surgeries today but we talked with her tech. Reign's bandage change was later today because of the surgeries and I completely understand that! I spoke with the tech before the change and she was very happy with Reign's progress. She said she was alert and oriented.  Walking very good and had peed every time she had her out. I explained the poop/ diarrhea concern and she said the doctor was aware and Reign had shown signs of GI track irritation most likely caused by her medication , having a different diet or stress.   They had added a med to help with that on Thursday.       Check that off my list of things to freak out about lol

My husband called after bandage change and she said it went well. The tech wasn't able to observe  ( she likes to see first hand so she knows exactly what is going on with the animals she's in charge of) since they had so many surgeries today. But going off of the doctors notes everything was looking really good. Reign went out to pee after ,ate a couple pieces of chicken and was napping.

Our 10pm call the tech said she had Reign right after her amputation surgery so she was sad to see her back but a little happy cause she adores our Princess. She was very happy to see how well Reign was walking for her potty break and said she had eaten for her.  She agreed Reign was much more awake at 10-11 than when her shift started at 6.    Of course we got to hear how wonderful Reign is and she just loves sitting her on her lap for her warm compress.

3 calls all postive!!! YAY FOR REIGN!!!  We will hear from the doctor in the morning to see if she gets to come home and the biopsy should finally be back and maybe the culture will be back too. It would be nice to all the test results  ( bone won't be back until the end of the week) just to see if they show any reason for any of this.

Thank you everyone for the support! This site has given me so much information. I can't imagine the basket case I would be if you guys weren't here to let me ramble on! I will update tomorrow once I know if she's coming home

. . . try to put it behind you and let go of the anger. You don't have to pretend it didn't happen, but by letting go of anger you put more room in your heart for joy and happiness, and Reign will really sense that. So whenever you start to feel mad, try your best to look at how things are today, and how she's doing (so much better!) and see if that helps you all move forward.

No truer words were ever spoken.

Yay for the great update!!!

Sigh. Reign isn't coming home today. Emergency surgeries pushed back her bandage change/ closing so she wasn't done until 6 and she still needs her recovery time. The latest they do releases before  6 so no home coming and no visit today. They also put a jp  drain in just in case any more fluid tries to build up. Depending on how everything looks in the morning tomorrow will be Reign's home coming take #2. Depending on if the drain is producing anything she will have it out Friday/ Monday. Still no test results so maybe tomorrow we will know something

Has anyone dealt with a drain? I'm sure they will go over everything when we pick her up but is there anything tips/tricks to this? I've never had anything like this before.

My frustrating of the Reign Saga continues!

Jerry's Tripawds News blog post about wound care includes details about the common Jackson Pratt drain.

There are also many forum topics mentioning "drain". You can use the Advanced Search function above to refine the results.

Thanks for the update. Please keep us posted!

My cat had a drain which was much simpler than the Jackson Pratt drain. Mona's was a passive drain which is based on gravity or capillary action. It's made out of latex and held in by a stitch. My job was to "snap"it (I think so it didn't stick to her skin) and to clean the goo that drains out which can dry and become itchy. I'd clean the area with a damp baby facecloth.

I hope your's is easy to clean. I'm sure your vet will give you clear instructions. I hope your vet visits come to an end soon.

I tell ya what....you have the patience of a Saint! I'm on pins and needles everytime I see you've made a post...wondering how Reign is....is she feeling/acting better...eating...walking okay....coming home "today"!

And it looks like tomorrow IS "coming home day"! It better be! All the Tripawd Community would hate to have to storm the vet's office to get her out of there!!

I know Mondays are usually crazy at the vet's office so I can understand the delay in getting the bandage changed. Our priorities aren't necessarily their priorities! Darn it! I am glad though that they clearly care greatly about Reign and are taking such good care of her!

Glad that your daughter is doing so much better..and Reign is too! GREAT NEWS!!!clap REALLY GREAT NEWS!!clap

Will anxiously look for your next update AND homecoming!

Are you still eating lots of chocolate?? If not, dont worry, I'll eat enough for both of us tonight!

Love and hugs!

Right after I posted I started searching. I understand why they are doing it and it is to be cautious but that doesn't mean I'm thrilledabout it!

As soon as the tech said they had emergencies I completely understood! Reign's bandage change before noon is not life or death. Just inconvenient for me.

10pm call went well. She has been walking around and hasn't tried to get at the drain yet. Reign did give then girl a "What the heck?"  look when they put a shirt on her to hold the drain in place better. (She may be small but clothes are not her thing. Maybe a coat if it's really cold but that's about it.) No real interest in food but is drinking.

Doctor will call in the morning to let us know if we can come get her.  I wish I could eat some chocolate but my stomach has been in knots since the beginning of this. Once she's all healed up I'm going to sleep for a week and live off of chocolate and wine!!

Poor thing...she's been poked, prodded, drugged...and now she has to wear CLOTHES!! She's going to be soooo glad to get home!!

Watch out, she'll probably try to take a swig of your wine and sneak a bite of your chocolate bar.

Shhh...don't tell anyone...but my Happy Hannah had an occasional M&M as a treat. She liked the orange ones.

Oh my goodness...you and Reign sure have been through the ringer...what-ever

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get good news today and that Reign can finally COME HOME!!  I know being away from her pack for this long has got her wondering what the heck is going on.  You know it's for the best and her health but it sure doesn't make it any easier.

Our Leland was a hind leg amp and he had a drainage tube placed at the incision site.  He didn't have a lot of drainage going on that I remember.  The one thing that was bizarre was hubby and I had to remove the drain tube after so many days.  Literally the surgeon explained the removal and thank goodness hubby has a strong stomach and was able to do it.  My job was to keep our boy still.

Anyway sending healing thoughts Reign's way!

Sahana and her Angel Leland and Lucian too
