Oh yes the syringe method! In the appetite link above you’ll find an article about how to do it if you’re not familiar. Purrkins other suggestions are also great!

He is in great hands with the vets and you. We are sending all the positivity we can gather that he perks up soon. Please keep us posted.

Geez, come on sweetness, you've  got to eat!

It may be that the SubQ wasn't  quite enough and he needs fluids for 24 hrs.

One other out in left field thought,  is it possible his throat/ esophagus was irritated  during the surgery  with the tubing used for anesthesia?  That would certainly make him not want to eat, or  it be able to eat.   I told you it was "way it in left field".

Any improvement  with the eye situation?

Paws crossed  for a big improvement  with his appetite.

Things are not looking too good. I was laying/sitting with him all day, hardly slept myself, and he hardly even moved to readjust. He did not get up at all for bathroom or water. I tried to give him water and he had no interest. I'm hoping this is due to the fluids but at the same time it had all been absorbed by the time I made it home from work.

I also tried to offer food, room temp and warm baby food and chicken breast, as well as trying to trick of putting baby food on his nose. It seems like he is trying to get away from the smell so I believe his stomach is still upset, even with getting the nausea meds.

My husband is going to try and find goats milk, lactic ice cream, high calorie gel, and syringe feeding before we hit our deadline.

We have also noticed that he seems to be breathing a little heavy :/

His eyelids aren't as bad but they were still out a little bit last night.

I'm begining to fear that he has given up and decided it's time:'( I hate to lose my baby but i also hate to keep putting him through medical procedures and attempted force feedings if he has no will/quality of life left.

If we can not get him to eat and he goes in i have asked my husband to be Frank and ask the vet to be honest about if he feels Hiroaki still has a chance at recovery after going 4 days refusing to est and hardly drinking.

The fear alone that I may come home from work to one less baby is breaking my heart.

I agree on the fluids Sally likely not enough. And the throat/ esophagus is not so far fetched Purrkins was irritated after his dental.

Some info on feeding tubes it is not force feeding an animal it is life-saving. Cats will tolerate it better then syringe feeding, and that is the only way he has a fighting chance.  I think he is too weak to try anything at this point.

Are you confident in your Vet team? If not take him somewhere else do you have a teaching hospital near you?

Please think more on the feeding tube. You have Hiroaki to lose and everything to gain with the tube. He is so young he deserves the fighting chance.

If they are still confident that he can pull through we are doing the feeding tube. But with the added heavy breathing and now going so long without food if the vet does not feel he will recover I dont want to make him suffer.

Trust me we are doing all we can to save our boy, just dont want to keep doing this and that all because we cant bare to lose him.

My husband doesnt even want to wait until 1pm, so right now we are waiting until they open at 10 to call.

I agree on asap and hope they can get him right in!

Did you have chest x-rays done before the amp? Might be something to consider. We know you guys are fighting for Hiroaki.

Positive thoughts and prayers the feeding tube is the answer.

Let us know, please.

I keep asking my husband but he says they never said they did, which slightly irritates me.

The decision was made to hospitalize for 3 days at a partner facility that us 24 hr staffed, but not 24 hr operating.

They are going to try and find out why he wont eat. First thing they told my husband they are doing is xray. Just waiting for the text update on if anything is found.

You will get the x-ray now and rule some things out hopefully!
Great, they are keeping him and 24 hours staffed!
Fluids and hopefully the feeding tube placed?

We are waiting with you!

Quick check in. Xray showed fluid around the lungs. Vet said they believe the cause was stress. They also said they have gotten it to go down a little in the hour he has been there, good sign, but if it slows down then it will be a problem.

For now they are keeping him on an iv and going to wait until the fluid goes down and they can reevaluate.

Sorry if I'm getting annoying to anyone following. It helps me a bit to put it out there as well as the hope that if anyone googles a similar situation Hiroaki's story may help, regardless of outcome.

A great sign they got the fluids down in an hour.
That would explain his breathing heavy and not eating.

Your not annoying anyone that is what this site is for! We are on this ride with you & have hope they can get Hiroaki past this.

I do wonder about getting fluids and buildup on the lungs already but that is just me I'm no vet. I went thru that with my Grandma and they had to cut back on fluids. I imagine it would depend on the underlying cause.

Will keep our paws and fingers crossed they get the rest of the fluid out & they can get him feeling better!

I don't have anything to offer except support, having a pet that won't eat is scary and frustrating!  In my case it was due to kidney failure in my TriPug Maggie.  Right when she was diagnosed she had not eaten for 3 or 4 days, then I had to syringe feed her for several more days before I could get her eating on her own.  She lost weight and was a bit weak but she pulled through.

You ARE NOT annoying anyone!  This is an excellent place to post for information, support, to sort out your thoughts, or just to vent.

We are invested in your journey now and want to see the best outcome for Hiroaki!

Please don't think you are annoying anyone! Your experiences are helpful to others who come here looking for help. I'm so sorry that you are going through this, and it really helps to come here to look for support. This site is full of empathetic people, and for me, offered me the support that I didn't really have from family and friends. So please keep us posted and I hope your kitty feels better soon.

So we just got another update....

I'm still very shaken and rather than reword everything and possibly miss something here are the texts between my husband and I.

Him-Last call he said that we were dealing with heart failure but he got most of the fluid off the lungs and said that they will keep him on oxygen to the morning but he hopes to see him eating food by then and was drinking water by himself a little bit ago

Me-But if its heart failure does that mean were going to lose him

Him-No he said his heart WAS failing it's not now.. Right now he's rebounding

I've yet to read much about heart failure in animals so I'm still in shock of how to respond....

I would like to thank everyone for being so supportive and offering up so many ideas to try. I wish I would have insisted on him being further examined a few days ago... I just hope I didnt wait too long.

I was afraid of that so sorry this is happening.
NOT in heart failure now is what I read?! REBOUNDING !!
Yaay for Hiroaki drinking by himself!!

Are they telling you the why after surgery? Blood clot or some explanation.

Ask all your questions while he is there. What exactly are we dealing with? Did they do echocardiogram? ECG Electrocardiogram?

I dealt with heart failure in a dog, not a cat. She was only given months to live she lived almost four years on meds and diet change she had an excellent quality of life. I don't know what you are dealing with exactly and if this is a secondary or primary disease. All things to ask and look into.

He is exactly where he needs to be when he needed to hold onto that ok.
We continue to send good thoughts and prayers to you all. We will keep watching for updates.

Big HUGS!!
