Promise, I'm not freaking out.  I just want to know if anyone else experienced this.

We are now 6 weeks post Jill's last chemo treatment.  At the one month mark, she went in for a CBC to see where her WBC/Neutrophils were at, and they were low (not very low at all, just borderline of normal), so we were going to hold off on starting metronomics and re-test in two weeks.  Went last night for CBC re-check, and now her WBC and neutrophils went DOWN from 2 weeks ago (again not incredibly low or anything to worry about).

Did anyone else experience anything like this for a while after chemo?  I guess 6 weeks isn't THAT long, but usually when this happened during chemo, they bounced right back in 2 weeks.  I know it's cumulative, but still.  She did also just have this "suspected" UTI and her whiskers continue to fall out.

Thanks all,

Erica

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. The only thing I can add---which isn't much.......I do recall a couple of posts where the blood work was done two weeks after chemo....then, when tested again....still low ABC....so I remember that some at least had four weeks of low. .......and I think it was LOW....not just sorta' borderline

Happy Hannah's hair still is pretty sparce on amp site......how 'bout Jill's fur in general?? Pictures look like she has.nice thick coat in general.

Haven't really noticed any whisker loss..........I'm start in' to grow a few though:-) :-)

hahaha, SALT you crack me up.

She had multiple times when two weeks after chemo bloodwork was low, one time VERY low, but it bounced back after two weeks.  I'm just wondering if it's normal for 6 weeks really....or if maybe she has something weird going on she needs an antibiotic for (NOT CLAVAMOX!!!)

Jill's hair is wonderful, cat's can get what's called a "chemo coat" during chemo where they lose a bit of their top coat and get this super shiny, soft fur.  She sure is shedding a lot.  Like I said, I am NOT panicking over this, it's more of a curiousity thing, afterall this means the chemo is doing its job in her little body!

xoxo,

Pepper

I can't answer your question about the dropping of the WBC, Sassy's always dropped but not that low and they have been in the lower normal range during the metronomics .

I have noticed that Sassy is shedding.  I figured some of it was our spring weather but some of it is the chemo.

So I just talked to my FairyVetMother Kelly and she told me that while the numbers went down, they are very insignificant changes, so while they didn't go UP, I guess we can say they basically stayed the same.................

Hm-m-m-m-m - I think Jill is keeping you on your toes! I'm pretty sure that's a cat thing...

Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.

Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.

Kelly is sure a FairyVetMother to all of us!

I'm glad this is "normal" as far as her numbers. It's OK to freak out, you don't need to apologize. With every freak out you post about, someone, someday, will find your information, read through it and know that everything will be OK. So thanks for helping current and future members with all of your questions, freak outs and everything else!

So final update:

Oncologist says:

"WBC still too low to start cytoxan, looks like her bone marrow is just still recovering from the chemo. Re-check in 2 weeks."

Let's hope its a nice calm two weeks with no cat puking in my hair or peeing in my bed :D

Jill is just fragile.  Better to wait than have something happen that you don't need to happen.  :)    Recover Jill, no puking in mom's hair or peeing in the bed (pstt we still know it wasn't you.  ;)  )

Hugs

PEPPER!! That's great!! Sorry, this stupid machine cut off and I didn't get to finish.....now I know why....so you could zoom me that picture!,

That's it Pepper!! That explains it......when that big whisker fell out a little bit of Jill's smart brain was attached to that whisker and it did dim my her up---------but WBC beware....?there are new whiskers back in town and they're small enough they don't have to attach to her kitty brain:-) :-) :-) :-) That's it:-) We figured it out!!

No whisker..no study...no pass test.

New whiskers...more study...pass test.

Darn, Salt's brain is pretty fried figuring all this out. Your welcome:-) :-) :-)

Jill, I've never seen a cat love the camera like you do----I know sometimes you get tired of your momma taking photos but she can't help it!! You really are the cutest cat on the planet!!

Okay, Atta go see if I've brown anymore whiskers......I like the idea of getting smarter:-) :-) :-)

Wonder if nose whiskers count??

More pictures.....more captions......love 'em:-) :-)

Awww look at her! See, she's getting stronger by the minute.

I agree with Michelle, I think that just her very species might make her system more delicate than a big ol' dawg. She WILL get there, and this will be an uneventful two weeks!

Awe...sorry to read about the WBC but I have to say she looks great. Her eyes are nice and clear and bright and she looks like she feels ok, doesn't look mopey or down.
I agree with the others, she's just a delicate little lady who needs to take her time building those WBC back up. She says don't worry mom, I got this, just taking my feline time.
Love how photogenic Jill is!
