Hi. Buddy is doing well other than some swelling. I took the compression bandage off yesterday and since then, he has gotten some fluid accumulating in the bottom portion of his incision. The incision looks like an upside down y. At the two end points on the bottom, he has some swelling that is getting worse. It looks like he is a nursing mother. I'm putting a call into the vet but until I hear back, is that common? Should I put a new compression wrap on it?
Thanks,
Tessa and Buddy
Ok...not a vet...a d you've put in a call...all good!!
Now, under NORMAL circumstances, and we all know his situation ks not exactly that....you are most likely seeing normal seelling AND a sero a. A seroma is a "sack" of fluid build u p until the body is able to sbsorb it back into the system. Some nave referred to it as a "sagging boob"
My Happy Hannah had a huge pocket of fluid for many days. It woukd actually subside some a d then come back. I did take her in when it first started happening and was assured by the vet it was a seroma . Sometimes they do jave to drain them, but mkst times they reabsorb on their own.
Let us know what the vet says and, if possible, email him a pic. You'll find pics kf sero as on here too.
Lots of hugs to you and Buddy!!!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
These are some rough days. You're doing what you need to do. If the area begins to drain a lot and/or smells yucky, Buddy needs to get your vet quickly. Otherwise, if it just seems like a fluid sac, like Sally said, it's pretty normal. Give it some time. Molly's fluid/swelling/bruising went away after several days. It seemed like a looooong process. But it's just part of the recovery. Positive energy sent your way.
Agreed, it does sound like a seroma . As long as ithe discharge is not greenish, smelly or bloody (it should be more watery than bloody), it's probably ok. Can't hurt to call your vet though just to let them know. I wouldn't wrap it unless it's under vet's orders. If you can post a photo (here's how to add images to forum posts), we can take a look and help you put your mind at ease a little more.
