Dizzy had her 3rd chemo yesterday she has the usual side effects not wanting to eat her food but she is hungry she just begged for my pizza her energy level is very low but it is so hot and humid I'm not surprised. She has put weight on between chemo sessions so I guess she is eating enough I think it may be time to increase her exercise a little bit. She slipped on our decking last night as it was slippy due to the rain she seemed shocked and annoyed that she did it and was a bit stiff this morning but I think i worried about it more than she did. One more chemo session in 3 weeks then if the vet thinks its ok for her i think we may try hydro see how she goes.
I know all dogs are different but I am just stuggling to work out how much walking she should be doing but we'll get there as a rule of thumb she is 9 weeks post amp about 8 years old how much exercise should she be getting. i think too much to beging with and now we have backed off a bit too much but when its so hot its so hard for her

Gillian, your instincts are right....the heat and the chemo is not the ideal combination to be active. Let things play out the way she did and remember that if she's putting on weight the easiest way to help her lose it right now is to cut back on her food, not increase exercise. There will be plenty of time for that when the weather cools off. Nine weeks is not a long time and with chemo, she needs her rest. Remember, one hop at a time.

Trouble never got back to her 'level' of exercise after the surgery. I let her set her own pace and was lucky she was one of those dogs who didn't try to overdo it. The weight needs to come off, but you may not be able to factor in enough exercise to make a difference. Start looking at diet and see if you can make some progress there.
And there will be falls and it does annoy and embarrass them. Taking a leg did not take their dignity. You and Dizzy will settle into a routine that is comfortable, just be conscious of what Dizzy needs and go slowly. It will come with time.

Thanks i don't think she needs to loose weight she is just under the same weight she was before amputation and she was a tiny bit on the skinny side before that but I do not want her to put any on because i think I'm right in thinking it is better for tripawds to be on the lean side. It's hard because she is a greyhound/whippet saluki cross so they are by nature skinny dogs and lazy when they want to be. The phrase 45mph counch potatoes sums them up. she is not eating much but she is on a higher protein food so maybe i will go back to a lower protein food

Yep, keeping a Tripawd skinner than usual is always better than being overweight by even a pound. "45mph couch potato" is funny!!!
The higher protein food could be doing it.
