Well Molly had her right rear leg amputated 2 weeks ago due to an osteosarcoma!
2 weeks on and she is doing well. Sleeps a lot which is understandable but we are now starting to do short 5 minute walks 3 times a day! She doesn't half pick up speed once her harness goes on!
Next week we start hydrotherapy sessions to help strengthen the remaining rear leg as she also suffers from hip dysplasia.
The only thing I am finding is that she gets quite restless during the night but just seems to want stretch her legs.
The support I received from everyone on here was unbelievable and you all answered so many of the questions I had! Really helped to put my mind at ease which also helped me to assist Molly confidently with her recovery.
Sounds so positive, Kirsty. So glad Molly is doing so well!
Is she still taking any pain meds? Just curious - we are at 3 weeks post op.
Lisa and Pofi
Lisa, Minneapolis
On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly. His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.
Two weeks is a big milestone! You will continue to see improvement each day as she gets more comfortable and confident.
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.

Thanks for the great update! Glad to hear, she's doing well.
Are you working with a CCRT or CCRP ?
More frequent shorter walks are definitely better, but keep in mind that walking does not build strength, only stamina. Focus on building core strength, developing muscles with weight bearing exercises and doing balance work to improve proprioception . You'll find lots of articles, interviews and podcasts in the Tripawds Blogs , and plenty of professional tips and how-to videos in Loving Life On Three Legs —available in the Tripawds e-books , library.
