Today is the day my 10-year old Rottie, Magnus has his right front leg amputated in fact as I'm typing I'm sure the surgeons are busy removing his leg. This diagnosis came as quite the shock as I was initially told it was a muscle tear so I'm still in shock and feel like I didn't retain any of the information the several doctors told me yesterday. Sounds like reading previous forums everyone has had a pretty positive experience. Of course I'm anxious about what our future will look like but it's encouraging to know so many of you have had positive experiences.
Hi to you and Magnus! We are sorry you had to join our club but we are here to help any way we can. All of us are keeping our paws crossed for a speedy and uneventful recovery.
Yes, there are many pawsitive examples of giant breed dogs on three legs!
And lots of great Rottie examples as well.
feel like I didn’t retain any of the information the several doctors told me yesterday.
Of course you didn't! It's easy to see why. The diagnosis is not what anyone expects, it takes a while to wrap your head around it. You might want to have someone there when you pick up Magnus from the clinic, and have your list of questions ready on paper. Be sure he comes home with good pain management , it will make or break the recovery.
Did you see our What to Expect articles ? And Jerry's Required Reading List ? Be sure to check them out so you are even more prepared when he comes home.
Please let us know how surgery goes. Remember, try to stay pawsitive and remember that your attitude sets the tone for recovery. The more pawsitive you are, the easier it will be!

Hi - Our 8.5 year old Rottie had a left front leg amputation a week ago today. It’s been rough adjusting and he wound up with a seroma and we were in the Animal ER because we had no idea what was going on. I am waiting a post approval for my story share. I will be honest it’s been hard. Rotties are very stoic dogs and to see him now yelp in pain is not fun. He’s also stubborn as all get go which doesn’t help at all. We are wishing Magnus the best.
Incredible that two Rottie members joined us on the same day! Well you are in good company and your other post has been approved. Thanks for supporting Magnus' people!
