I'm posting this as a helpful tip so if this happens to someone else, they don't go into a panic when they see a lump. (like I did yesterday! Shout out to Diane for answering my distress email!)
I have posted many times, I never worry about Comet's good remaining leg but much to my surprise I guess the hopping for years on end can take a little toll. She rapidly developed a cyst that I noticed yesterday. I did notice it a couple of months ago, but I thought a small ant bit her since the bump went down by the next day. I was cheering because I didn't rush her to the vet and it went away on its own within 24 hours. But then it came back yesterday.
It's a blood filled steril cyst (or that's what the vet thinks). He ruled out a foxtail and concluded it was probably from the pressure or bacteria on the bottom of her paw and it pushed out on the top of her paw almost between her toes. We don't know for sure but he took a needle to it and it seemed to be just syrupy blood with no puss. She's on antibiotics anyway for her neck disc infection – so nothing was done to it except the lancing.
It doesn't seem to hurt her at all. If it doesn't go down, which it hasn't today – we'll have it washed but I hate to put her under.
And now for the pics which was taken after the lancing so it is a bit smaller:
The last one is my precious angel sleeping under my desk this morning – you can see the sore.

Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
OOOowwwwweee! Poor girl!
Hey this is a new one to us, thanks for sharing it here, gory pic and all. Now we know, now if someone ever panics we can say "sterile cyst?" and hope that's all it is!
Feel better Comet!

Poor Comet. I hope it gets better soon and am glad it doesn't bother her.
Debra & Angel Emily
Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.
She's so cuuuuute, even with her icky cyst.
Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.
Videos and pics of Gerry's pawesomeness can be found at: http://gerry.tripawds.com
Oh poor Comet!! Hope it heals up fast! She IS so very cute sleeping with her paws crossed 🙂 Maggie does that alot too.

Maggie lost her battle with kidney disease on 8-24-13
Tazzie had a cyst like this on her remaining front foot and when it flared up I would soak her foot in Epsom salts for 5 minutes twice daily and she would wear her bootie during the day to help protect the bottom of her foot. Before we put on the bootie we would use Gold Bond powder between the toes to dry things out (NeoPredef powder from your vet works great too and has a topical steroid). The only way to cure these is to remove them surgically, preferably with a laser.
Nice photo!

Wow! I'm actually relieved! I got my second opinion (since the first one was a little iffy)! Thanks Pam!
Jerry, maybe the nice photo was my sleeping angel???

I think we are all relieved when Pam jumps in to calm our fears. Love that you're here, Pam, and always so supportive!

Sorry to hear that Comet is having problems, even if it is a minor one. Thank you for sharing the wonderful picture of your baby sleeping. They all look so innocent, don't they?
I'm not talking to Comet, Looking at Comet, but I'm not ignoring her either. 😉
Chuy, showing everyone that Tripawds do everything 3 times better than regular dogs!
Your dog is very cute but I was in fact referring to the photo of the ruptured cyst. That is a perfect example of an interdigital cyst whereas Tazzie's photo was more of a pressure sore. I might have to print that out for Bulldog or Pug clients so they can see what they might be getting into down the road! (These cysts are very common in four-legged dogs of certain breeds. The short hairs act like a foreign body).

Then she will get along with you just fine!

She's an afghan hound according to her DNA results! HAHAHAHA If she is, she a very, very deformed little girl at 38lbs!
Thanks for the insight, Pam - my vet was kinda talking mumbo jumbo and not doctor talk either! It seemed like he couldn't make up his mind but did say something like an ingrown hair, pimple without infection or a this or a that. The steril cyst and NOT CANCER is all what got out of it. And when he was squeezing it (like a pimple), he said he was hoping hair or something would come out. Nada.
Thanks guys - you're the bestest!!
