Hi all!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  My name is Christina and I work for Encina Veterinary Hospital in Walnut Creek, California (Northern).  We recently had "Sammy", a 1.5 year old female German Shepherd surrendered to us after she was hit by a car and the owners were unable to afford anything.  One of our Interns (newly graduated veterinary students), Dr. Cindi Hillemeyer, took Sammy on and amputated her leg due to a fracture on March 9th (which is costing neatly $5k out of pocket for Cindi due to the longtime that Sammy was under Anesthesia because the fracture was very complicated).  Since then, it's come to our attention that Sammy also has also fractured her back; we were unable to diagnose this earlier because even when Sammy was on very high pain medications, she was still in so much pain for us to position her for x-rays.  Our surgeon Dr. Carl Koehler said that surgery on her back may or may not help; the best is for Sammy to be on strict bed rest for 6 weeks.  Our neurologist Dr. Filippo Adamo will be assessing her back and possible future neurological issues tomorrow, March 15th.

We are looking at keeping Sammy in our hospital for the next 4-6 weeks and are looking for a rescue to take her on after that, if everything works out.  Sammy is a sweetheart and given her predicament, she is doing very well emotionally.

If you could help us by spreading the word on Sammy, we would be forever grateful.  Sammy's forever home is out there and she deserves to be loved as a new tripawd!
