Hi, I'm Cooper. I'm a neutered white male Standard Poodle, and I'll be 4 years old in November. My old family was working and away from home a lot, and they felt it would be better for me to find a family who could spend more time with me, so now Heart of America Poodle Rescue in Moscow Mills, Missouri (~near St. Louis) is helping me find a new home. I am currently in a foster home and doing well (I haven't had any accidents in the house, and I haven't destroyed anything). I lost my front left leg when I was 10 months old. I was in a parked car and stepped on the window button, the window went down, and out I flew. I caused severe trauma to my leg when I landed, including extensive nerve damage, and my leg had to be amputated. I do pretty good, but my old house didn't have steps, so I'm just now learning how to go up and down 3 steps in my foster home's backyard. For this reason, I would probably do better in a ranch home vs. a 2-story.

The nice lady who runs the rescue ordered me a Webmaster harness off of this website, and it should be here any day. I think that will help me a lot. The harness is mine and of course I will bring it with me to my new forever home!

I didn't get much exercise in my old home, so I'm probably not as strong as I should be to avoid injury to my remaining limbs, and I get tired fairly quickly. But I'm young, and I have a lot of energy, and I'm more than willing to build up my stamina to keep up with you!

I am difficult to walk because I pull and lurch. My foster mom is hoping the Webmaster harness will help with the lurching, but I probably need some leash training because I pull pretty hard.

I have a strong prey drive, so I definitely need a home with a fenced-in yard.

I would love a home with another dog to play with and to keep me company when my humans are gone. I had your typical "introductory period" with my foster mom's 2 Standard Poodles, but after about a week I learned to play with my 8 year old foster brother (my other foster brother is 10 and doesn't play much any more, but sometimes he joins in too).

I am what humans call "mouthy", especially when I am excited or nervous, and my teeth will click and chatter, and I may also "air chomp" at you or any dog I may be playing with. I'll also chew on you when you play with me. I'm not biting, but I do use my mouth a lot.

I weigh about 70 pounds, and I play pretty rough. When I was in my old home, we had a cat who I was obsessed with and I would not leave her alone, and in my foster home there is also an 8 lb. toy poodle who I bother a lot too. I am kind of fascinated with her. But she is 15 years old and doesn't want a lot to do with me. I probably shouldn't go to a home with cats, and if you have smaller dogs they probably won't like me unless they like to play rough and are used to large dogs.

I can jump up on the bed, but my foster mom lifts me off in the morning because she doesn't want me to hurt my remaining front leg.

My old family said that I can have some itchy skin issues in the summer, and sometimes my vet gave me prednisone for that. Right now I have 2 hot spots, but they aren't really bad, and I don't bother them much. I do really well on Fromm kibble with a couple of spoons of Nutro Holistic Superfood canned food on top. I should probably be maintained on a good quality food so my skin stays healthy and not ichy.

I am a tough chewer, and I love to chew on big thick Buffalo horns, and big thick antlers. Anything hard that can withstand a voracious chewer like me!

Oh, this is important! Standard Poodles are one of the breeds that are prone to bloat, so my new family would need to educate themselves about bloat and what to watch for. Hopefully it would never happen to me, but it would be good for you to know about it just in case!

I am up to date on my vaccinations, neutered and microchipped.

Well, that's about all I can think of. Thank you so much for reading about me. If you would like to see my handsome face, or if you have any questions or would like to consider adopting me, here's the link to my Petfinder profile:

OMD! I wish I was ready to look for a new member for our pack right now, I would scoop Cooper up in a heartbeat! I've been wanting a standard poodle for years now. Unfortunately we aren't quite ready for a new pupper right now 🙁

I really hope Cooper finds a wonderful forever home soon!

Domino had his left front leg amputate on May 13th 2014 after being hit by a car. He's now living a happy healthy life on three legs :)

Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I am still looking for my forever home! I am housebroken, neutered, and up to date on all my shots. I love to play, so I would love a furry sibling, but I love to snuggle with my human too. Let me know if you are interested in hearing more about me! Peace, Bark Out. Love, Cooper.

Could it be that it wasn't the right time for Cassie ro bring Cooper home in November but NOW it IS the right time???

Let's think this through...from a "Universe" sort of way:

* Cassie has ALWAYS wanted a Standard Poodle!

* A while month has passed so it would be "better timing" to bring Cooper home!

* Clearly Cooper refuses to go with anybody else and is waiting for Cassie to bring him to his forever home with her!

*Let's see. What other signs is the Universe giving us....hmmm......got it! Cassie's name starts with a "C" and Cooper''s name starts with a "C"!

Think how cute it will be seeing tripawd Domino and tripawd Cooper playing together..ADORABLE!!!

That Universe sure is a tricky little energy things! It always knows exactly what it's doing and why! Just sayi '...

Signed,

The Universe
