Currently limping on 4 paws Sally would be better off hopping on three as she shrieks every time she bumps her right foreleg. She came to me as a 'death row' pound dog.I'm not a rescue but my local dog warden has me spotted as a soft touch for hound types and she's one of three that has arrived here (delivered to my door yet!) in the past month.

She was found abandoned in the forest in the company of two young half grown hound pups that were probably her offspring. One had already died from eating poisoned fox bait and the other had to be put to sleep on the spot to ease his suffering as he too had taken the bait. She was emaciated and half bald with mange.Treatment for the mange and a month of good solid meals though has her full of beans and raring to go.Throughout all of her confusion and suffering she remained the most cheerful little person you can imagine, her tail does a helicopter routine when she's particularly pleased to see me which is every time I've been out of sight for 10 seconds!

She's probably around three years old but she plays like a puppy, sore leg or not she gallops like a demon and give the ex racing greys a run for their money. Her recall is fabulous,as her house manners. She gets on well with everyone, both canine and feline though I've seen her eyeing rabbits through the fence!

She is in Ireland with me but as American airlines offer free transport for dogs when accompanied by a passenger as long as you know of someone coming to the Emerald Isle on holiday getting her to your home isn't difficult. She's had an awful hard life, numerous scars on her legs bear witness to that, and it appears that there's an old break on her right front elbow joint which didn't heal well (I'd be astonished if a vet had any part in its healing) and there's a thickening and tenderness of the joint. It's giving her enough trouble now but in time arthritis will set in.

So anyone out there looking for a little 22" whippety lady 'tripawd to be' here she is!Much as I've come to love her there's currently 15 dogs in the house (including rescues I'm fostering and pound dogs waiting to recover sufficient health to be offered for adoption)

It's getting awfully crowded on my bed!

If I loaded it correctly that's also Sally as my Avatar.

Bless you for saving Sally, and good luck finding her a home. Hopefully you can find someone local to take her considering how unsafe pet travel can be.

Thank you for joining and sharing the photos, please keep us posted.

Thanks admin but nothing is as potentially dangerous as homing this kind of dog here.Although Ireland is 'Hound Headquarters' in terms of breeding greyhounds the Irish people don't like hounds as pets. They're considered 'livestock' and treated worse than any cow or sheep would be!

There is only one community here that likes them well enough to want them,in fact they like them so much they go to some lengths to steal them.English people on this forum may know the community of which I speak as these 'hound lovers' travel to England and steal hounds there too.It is members of this community beyond doubt who originally owned Sally and are responsible for the state she was in when she came to me.They are famous in this part of the world for ill treating their animals but the SPCA and the police rarely go near them because they are afraid to.

A few years ago one of these community settlements was the subject of a police raid looking for stolen property. The police took 700 armed soldiers in with them on the raid.Several million euros worth of stolen property was recovered in the raid but not one community member was prosecuted in court for the crimes.

When I have to leave my dogs unattended I have two extremely antisocial Rottweillers between the hounds and the entrances to my property and even with that precaution I worry for them every minute I am away from home. The Rotts aren't always enough.I had several of my hounds stolen by these people  some years ago.It took three months but I managed to find and recover all but one of them. The recovered hounds were in an appalling state, both physically and emotionally traumatised.

I would far rather take the minimal risk of air travel than risk Sally's life here.I never rehome hounds in Ireland.

My photos of Sally were taken once she had started to recover. You can still see  bald patches where the hair has not yet grown back but here's some pics of other dogs from the same source taken soon after their arrival. It gives you an idea of how stolen hounds are treated by these people.<img src="PS.I lost my tripaw saluki a few years ago,she had bone cancer and the amputation at the age of 9 kept her with me for another 4 years, and I currently own a two and a half legged cathttp://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g412/hihosilver2/Mouse1.jpgImage Enlarger

" alt="" />

This is Mouse.<img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g412/hihosilver2/Mouse3.jpgImage Enlarger

" alt="" />She was much improved when these pictures were taken as the open sores had healed and the mange treated so she wasn't scratching. She was so weak from starvation when found she had collapsed and couldn't stand.<" alt="" />

Next is Pooh Bear,he didn't have mange but he'd been starved and had chronic 'dire rear'.He needed support to stand.<img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g412/hihosilver2/090-Copy2-Copy.jpgImage Enlarger

" alt="" />

The vet wrote him off but I didn't and during the period of nursing him back to health fell for him and decided to keep him.<img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g412/hihosilver2/100.jpgImage Enlarger

" alt="" />Once strong enough he was a cunning and determined food thief, despite TWO Kiddi Locks on the refrigerator he could still open it.I was forced to put a coffee table across the door to protect my own dinner! He's stopped that game now he's realised that food is in abundance and will soon need to be put on a diet as he's getting a little bit too chubby!<img src="http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g412/hihosilver2/107.jpgImage Enlarger

The time difference is a killer between my time and yours but on the subject of air travel,I've shipped 124 dogs by air in the last 20 years and 322 by road internationally. Not a single casualty and not a single distressed dog on arrival.Only 4 went to the US but some went a good deal further(Australia and New Zealand)I've no idea what goes on with domestic airlines in your country but I'd be guessing that the fatalities were due to idiots giving the dogs tranqs preflight or puppy mill pups who weren't fit to walk much less be transported. The report you linked gives neither cause of death or number of fatalities relative to number of animals transported, and is therefore not worthy of notice.
