Sally, you're exactly right about block dogs having a much lower chance of getting adopted -- it's called Black Dog Syndrome in the rescue community. Here's a link for anyone who wants to learn more.

That said, I think he's a blue pit -- pic probably makes him look darker.

So glad you saw him, Lisa! I'm having good thoughts about Sally and that sweet boy! Either of you can PM me...I work with one of those rescues that drives from SC to VA underground railroad style with volunteer drivers, and I know someone in NC whose rescue has a part-time driver and charges a flat rate to the different states going all the way up to NE.

And Sally, just the though of you considering two Tripawds -- you're a wonderful soul. How amazing would that be! big-grin

Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.

Okay, Sally, this is how much you are loved.  We just broke some land speed records, and I just appeared in public with no makeup, to get to this event before the 2:00 end time.  Here is what I found out rasberry

Blue was not there today b/c he is being fostered by a vet tech who had to work today.  He will be at another event next weekend, plus I talked with the lady who runs the rescue and I'm pretty sure we could make arrangements for me to meet before then if necessary. winker

The five volunteers there today RAVED about this dog.  He is a purebred Pit who was hit by a car at 6 months of age.  Owner took him to a vet with his bone protruding from his leg and requested euthanasia.  This particular vet does a huge amount of pro bono work for the rescues around here and talked the owner in to surrendering Blue to the vet.  Dr. Pressley did the amputation and he and one of his vet techs has been fostering Blue since that time.  Having grown up going to work with the vet, he is VERY socialized and likes dogs and cats of all sizes, and apparently ADORES children.  He is very well trained and I think she said he walks well on a leash.  This group could not say enough good things about this dog.

The Humane Society of Lancaster County is run by Mary Reimers.  Mary said that she is open to adopting out of state, as long as you have references (I'm pretty sure my stories about your fabulous care of Hannah would count as your first reference, but I think they want to talk to your vet winker)  She did say that she would like for Dr. Pressley to have a say in the adoption after all that he has done for her, so he might also want to talk to you or your vet.  IF you want to contact her, her email is midwifesc2@gmail.com and she said to put "from Virginia - interested in Blue" in the subject line so she will know it is you.  Her phone number is 803-289-9820.  I have an application that I can scan and email or fax to you if you did decide to apply.

His adoption fee is $300, which is more than normal for this group.  I'm guessing that is partly b/c of the extensive medical bills he had, but mostly b/c someone with bad intentions (looking for a pit to fight or to use as bait) will typically not pay so much for them, so it weeds out the bad folks.  If that is an issue, I'm pretty sure I know someone who would donate part of the fee. winker

This is a small town rescue in rural South Carolina who is doing eveything they can to pull dogs from the shelter and keep them from being euthed.  They want to ensure the dogs are safe and go to a good home, but pretty sure they won't beat you up about being perfect.

Lastly, I will do anything in the world for a dog and anything for a friend, so I went today and I provide you with this info since you asked.  I will go and meet the dog next week or before, if you want.  Greg and I will do whatever we can to help, BUT PLEASE, do not feel any pressure from me to adopt this dog.  You must make that decision for you and you only.  I am just here to help if you need or want me to, okay?

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Oops, meant to tell you that if you want or need to call me - about this or anything else in the future! - my home number is 803-286-7770 and my cell is 717-875-3809.  With your computer problems, might be quicker than trying to exchange messages.  :)
