Jax is a 5 year old basenji/chihuahua mix. I'm fostering him for our local shelter in Springdale, Arkansas. If the right home is found, we will do a nationwide adoption but the adopter will have to arrange and pay for transport as we have no budget for that.
Jax is neutered and recently recovered from kennel cough. His right rear leg is missing below the knee. We don't know if this was due to injury, illness or maybe birth defect. Technically, he has three and a half legs, hence the name Jax3point5.
Jax is very energetic, LOVES toys, loves to run and play. He gets along well with other dogs his size. Cats and children are unknown so a home without them would probably be best. He is very skittish with new people and doessn't much care for men but my husband is working on that with him. He's still underweight at about 7.5 lbs and needs another couple of pounds but getting him to put on weight with his energy level hasn't been easy. 🙂
Once Jax does slow down, he loves to sit in your lap and watch TV, especially with a warm blanket. He needs very tough toys - he's a heavy chewer. He's neutered, housetrained and crate-trained. He loves going into his crate at night to sleep. Jax did escape from one foster home and got away from them quickly. Luckily he was recovered the next day and was no worse for wear, but until he bonds with you, his recall is not good. He loves to be chased and thinks evading you is a great, fun game.
His adoption fee will be $100.00 which covers his neuter and rabies shots. He's up to date on all other vaccines. An adoption application is required and can be provided via email. If you think Jax might be the right dog for you, please let me know!
Thanks
Jax sounds absolutely adorable! Be sure to post some pictures of him!!!
Unfortunately, I can't take a new dog in at this time... but if you post some pictures, and any adoption restrictions (like having to be from within the state he's in, etc)... we'll be better able to pass the info around to all our friends!
Angel Jake's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Thanks for joining and posting about Jax! Good luck finding his furever home.
Members can PM you for contact info if you'd rather not post that, but photos or videos will certainly help. If he doesn't have a profile online anywhere, consider starting a blog for him where you can upload pictures.
