I have found a dog that I wish to save in Chesterfield South Carolina. I am trying to find a way to get him to Washington State. Is there anyone who is interested in doing some driving? I don't even know if he is still alive, his kill date was yesterday and the shelter isn't answering... BUT, he is calling to me and I want to bring him home...

Hey Elizabeth, I'm so happy you want to adopt this pup! We are hoppy to help however we can, but if you can first get verification about the status of this sweetie, that would be fantastic. Hopefully he's available and waiting for loving home like yours! If so, we'll start putting out the publicity machine to round up some transport options.
P.S. Hope you don't mind I edited your title, just wanted to make it easier for people to see your request.

Oh you are just an angel!! I hope somehow this will happen. I'm on a different forum a lot and have seen these requests out there and thought I would love to be able to do something like that. Right now I am tending to my guy though.
Good luck from Kathy & Harley.
Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/
He made it into rescue, he is alive!! Super yay, minutes from being put down. Now, I have contacted the rescue and need to hear back from them if they will agree to a adoption out of state.
Thanks Jerry (Renee and Jim) for helping me with the wording, and everyone one else for the encouragement. I know there are tons of dogs in my home town that need help. I just felt so drawn to this boy's face. The way his eyes are remind me some of Sammy. I don't know, it is definately just a feeling or intuition or something that pulled at me when I saw him.
So, I will keep you posted on what's up next!

Oh, how exciting. Lately I am on the golden retriever forum a lot and last night someone posted that a 15 year old golden was dropped off at a shelter in California. 15! You should have seen the picture of this dog laying on a blanket. Someone close quickly got ready to drive to the shelter and later posted that the dog was dying and policy requires they hold the dog for 24 hours before they euthanize. Owners did not want to pay the $200 vet bill to euthanize. I could not sleep last night just kept seeing images of this beautiful dog.

I can't believe they would do that Kathyl. It makes me so sad I'm sorry for that dog! I have been that broke before, sometimes you have to make horrible choices. But, I would think the shelter would rather have you turn over the dog then make him suffer for 24 hours before dying alone. You would think they would let you be there to comfort him. Awww, that makes me feel like I won't sleep too.
Hugs, so sorry we have to see so much inhumanity while on the rescue forums. Or anywhere for that matter!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Good luck Elizabeth!!! He is adorable and I really hope it works out. We'll keep fingers and 3-paws crossed as well as send lots of positive thoughts!!!

Well good news and not so good news.
My husband has told me before that he doesn't mind if I do rescuing and fostering but he doesn't want to adopt any more dogs for awhile. I was thinking that I could bring this boy home and maybe my husband would change his mind and fall in love. If not, we would still be saving a life.
We had a talk and after losing 3 dogs in less than a year my husband really wants a break, he wants time to heal without all the stress and pressure other dogs can bring home. So, I have talked with the kennels this boy is in and I've agreed to sponsor him instead of trying to bring him home.
It makes me sad because I have this huge yard which used to be filled with happy dogs running and playing. It feels so empty with just my tiny girl in it. I have lots of love to give another dog, but I guess I have to be sensitive to my hubby's needs too.
So the good news is, this boy will get neutered and his shots because of the money I came up with for him. I will watch closely to make sure he doesn't languish in the kennels for too long. I just wish I could do more!
Thank you, all of you for your idea's and support.
If you know of any one who wants a cattle dog, the shelter said he is great with other dogs and is very outgoing with people and very sweet. He just wants to play and seems to have a bubbly personality. He is young, just a year old.

I think you made the smart decision there, it's really so much better if you are both on the same page. When the time is right, it will be such a great thing. Until then, taking action the way you did is such a huge help to the dogs and the organizations. Thanks for being there!
