If anyone's been thinking of adding an older dog--beyond the puppy destruction stage--to their family, I have a good one for you. I had a friend here who was a rescue angel, Shanna. She passed away suddenly a couple of weeks ago and her husband is in poor health and no longer able to care for their dog. Please consider taking Emmi into your heart and home. She is 6, a well-mannered pit-lab mix. She is devoted and sweet but needs to be in a home without other dogs or kids. She's not had exposure to kids and it wouldn't be fair to start now, and the loss of her mama has been hard on her, so she doesn't need the stress of learning to live with other dogs. Her human pop is very ill, so finding a new and loving home for Emmi would certainly relieve a lot of stress for him, and for me and all the rest of us who loved this woman so. If you have a heart for rescues, you could earn some heavenly karma points by helping Emmi. Transport to anywhere will be provided.
Bob really would like to see her in a good home before something happens to him. If you are thinking about adding or know someone please consider Emmi.

This is absolutely breaking my heart Michelle. And I know NO ONE is trying any harder to support and Bob to find help for Emmi.
I knkw shanna js soooo grateful to have you as ner Earth Angel watching kver her Bob and Emmi.
If Emmi could be with other dogs, I'd take her in a heartbeat! I know time is...well...time is of the essence and that's an understatement.
Please assure Bob that you have our complete support and we will all do eeverything possible to get her a loving home that would make he and Shanna happy!
Michelle, I know this is so hard on you and I know you have been one of the few to reach out to Bob a d try to help him through each moment. I know his health is deteriorating really, really fast a d his ability to care for Emmi is getting almost impossible. To find a home for her by Christmas would give Bob a great deal of peace as he prepares for his transition so he can join Shanna and Trouble.
And Michelle, if any Heavenly Karma is passed out, it has your name on it!
Love to you and please let Bob knkw we are all working on it.

I know she like to have all of the attention. Shanna had to stay on top of her she did cause a few fights with Duke. That is why Bob thought that being an only dog would be for the best.

Oh how I wish I knew someone ... I have seen all my Tripawds buddies post on FB and this breaks my heart!!! You know I would take her too if I could have more than one and she could handle JL. I just know she will find the perfect new forever home!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Emmi is still looking for a great home . If you know anyone who wants a great loving dog. She loves attention. She does need to be an only dog because she does get jealous and sometimes gets a wild hair and will start a tussle. Bob & Shanna love Emmi to death. Emmi's (not real brother) was to live the rest of his life at the vet but last week had to be put down because he became aggressive being left at the vets by himself. My feelings were he didn't know what was going on. He lost his mom & dad and his sister went back to live with Bob until he can find her a home.
Bob is very ill and can't take care of Emmi the way he wants and he really wants her to have a good home. She has never been around kids so the best home would be one that is an empty nester or older couple who wants to share their lives with a great dog. She is up to date on all shots & heart worm. Please if you know of anyone pass the word on. Transportation is no problem.

Oh .Michelle! This just breaks my heart!!! Soooooo sad!!! This whole situation is just awful!!
I hope you don't mind me sharing a bit more as it may help anyone on the fence make a decison. My facts may not be exactly right, but close enough.
When Shanna had the last round of chemo, she had Duke and Emmi stay with the Vet as neither she nor Bob were really up for caring for them. If I have this right, her intention was to bring both home as soon as she could. But if something happened to jer, she made arrangements for the Vet to keep Duke, as Emmie would be harder to find a home.
Shanna's sudden transition was right as Bob was told it would be doubtful he would make it to the holidays. After a month or so, Emmi was brought home a d looked a d looked for Shanna and Duke. And still does. Bob kept the clothes Shanna had on "that" day and Emmi lays on them.
It sounds as though the Vet didn't take Duke home to be loved a d spoiled, but merely kept him at the hospital as a hospital dog. I'm not sure thatsw the case. It breaks my heart that this wonderful dog was "put down" under these awful circumstances where he had to be absolutely miserable not understanding why he wasn't going home. I KNOW this is NOT what Shanna EVER thought would happen!!!
Bob is lretty much bedridden a dd struggles to get up to let Emmi out. She holds kt as long as she can. She seems to understand how nard it ks for him. She stays by his side comforting him, as he comforts her.
I wish Bob didn't have to know what happened to Duke. To fear the same fate for Emmi must be unbearable.
Michelle, you are a dear, dear, friend ro Bob and Shanna. You are doing EVERYTHING you can to help!!! I KNOW he, a d Shanna, are so grateful. You are a Saint!

Wow, that is just really, really tragic, we were so sad to read about Duke. I can't imagine how heartbroken Bob is right now, what a tragic situation.

You are pretty much right on that Sally. None of this is what Shanna had planned but things happen that we never plan 🙁 To be really honest they were preparing for Bob and not Shanna. Her passing was and still is totally unexpected. Bob really fears the same fate for Emmi. He talked last night of if he can't find a home just putting her down so she could be with everyone. He is so broken hearted.
I hope we can find her a home.
He contacted the rescue that he got her from but they would have to board her because of no foster homes with no other dogs. Which I think the same thing would happen to Emmi that happened to Duke 🙁

Okay Shana and Bob's little Earth Angel, a few more questions...if you know or can find out.
Coukd Emmi be mostly outside (fenced yard, insulated custom well built dog house, shade trees, etc), but with some inside individual quality cuddle time EVERYDAY and/or night? This woukd be temporary UNTIL a really good home could be found where she coukd be the only top dog !! 🙂
Reluctantly I ask this seemingly offensive a d seemingly insensitive vut necessary question. IF those conditions could be a temporw possibility/solution, , are there any funds set aside for Vet care, etc should she need it during this TEMPORARY time?? And maybe a little fence repair roo to keep her secure, as well ss the other dogs thst live on the property? Again, not trying to be insensitive and certainly understand the financial void Bob must be enduring right now. Just trying to figure out a way to make this work so Bob, and Emmi, can have some peace of mind.
Ive forgotten, what state does Emmi live in? ( And no, Imw not talking "broken hearted state", but geographic state!)
Can't stand this has happened to Duke and I'll be *&$#! if it will happen to Emmi and Bob!! And I know it's wrong ro be angry at that Vet, but that was WRONG!! He knows that was NOT what Shanna intended! And I'm sorry for sounding judgemental and I certainly don't know the circumstances other than it feels like her trust was betrayed, as well as Duke's!!!

I think Bob would prefer inside situation. I never asked the $ question. That would be between Bob and whomever took her. Emmi has never been an outside dog other than to go potty and has a very high prey drive as in squirrels, cats, racoons etc would be a target.
Texas is where Emmi is located.

This only gets more tragic.
Apparently Duke did stay at the hospital as a "clinic dog". NOT what Shanna exlected. Anyway, apparently he bit a Tech (after being there for over a month, after his friend Emmi went home but he didn't, can't even imagine what he was feeling).
A yway, the Vet decided he needed to be "put down".' Somu at least nad the decency to call Bob. Bob was in such bad shape Shanna had to drive him everywhere. And I thi k he had to use a wheelchair
when he did go somewhere.
Somehow that poor man managed to get himself in the car whike struggling for breath and made it to the hospital so he could be with him. Can you imagine the joy Duke felt when he saw him??? Can you imagine the heartbreak Bob felt knowing it wasn't the joyful reunion Duke had waited for??
Michelle reallu, really has been a great long distance friend to Bob. She's trying her best to keep him positive. Considering the circumstances, that's almost impossible, but she's doing it.
Omay...anybody live near ORANGE, TEXAS'????? If we coukd get local new coverage I bet we coukd get her adopted out in a heartbeat!!

No, I can't imagine how terrible that was for him, poor guy. I agree, he's so lucky to have Michelle there to lean on, even if it's over the phone.
