Max is my sweet foster boy. He is male (neutered), believed to be a Brittany/Beagle blend and approximately 7/8 years young.
He is currently 36.6 lbs and we're working on slimming his waistline. His weight is believed to be a side effect of untreated Hypothyroidism (which is now being treated with a small pill twice a day). It is an inexpensive condition to treat and will remain controlled as long as he takes his medication.
His amputation was on May 31/2011. He was pulled from a home in Kentucky when child services removed the children and saw the condition of his leg. An untreated broken leg healed improperly causing pain and resulting in a massive infection from a lick granuloma. The National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network pulled him from the shelter and raised $1,400 (via Facebook) to pay for his amputation.
He is completely house trained (no accidents even when he very, very ill), loves people - especially children, is bossy with my super submissive dog but likes to wrestle with him, and loves to go for walks. Has no mobility issues with stairs or walking, but he will need assistance getting into a car that is higher up then my little Focus or onto a couch/bed with you (if you want him there). He has short legs.
He was a very sick dog when he arrived here, but thanks to some excellent veterinary care (funded completely by NBRAN), and a little tender loving care, he is on his way to becoming a totally new man. He has been extensively tested for serious medical conditions and come up negative for all thus far.
His posting (soon to be updated as so much has changed in just three weeks) and contact details for the Ontario coordinator can be found at: http://www.nbra.....D=13227740
NBRAN is amazing and offers transports through a network of volunteer drivers.
I've created a blog to document his new life as well - check it out here: http://maxsroad.....pawds.com/
He is so CUTE! And thanks to your love and TLC he is going to have an amazing life ahead. Thanks for sharing his story here. Come back periodically so that this topic stays up top, and we'll keep sharing his story on our Facebook page too!
Paws crossed he finds his furever home quickly!

He is a beauty. Hope he finds the best forever home.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
The November Five - Spirits Max, Cherry, Tika, Trouble & Nova. 11/2008 - 3/2013 An era ends as Queen Nova crossed the Bridge.
That is great! Thanks! Please feel free to pass his listing along to any dog lover who is looking for a loving, low maintenance new pet who ADORES people, especially children.
He has his thyroid levels rechecked on July 7 and he will be microchipped the same day as well.
Max continues to do well and enjoy living life as a dog - pain-free. It's been almost five weeks since his amputation and his hair is starting to grow back. He's going for a full groom on July 11 so all his fur can grow in beautifully.
If you are interested in adopting Max after you check on his posting, you need to fill out a form located on the site at: http://www.nbra.....ptappl.asp
Once the application is reviewed, the co-ordinator will set up a home visit and call your vet reference. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but these dogs deserve a permanent forever home and the co-ordinators do everything they can to make that happen the first time so they don't end up in the rescue again.
Here he is, in action, wrestling with our liver/white Britt Connor - if I didn't know better, I would be inclined to think they both have four legs!
What a pair! Thanks for the cute movie.
We will keep reminding people on Facebook too, be sure to post often so we remember!

Max is now two months post op, healthy, spunky, and ready to go!
He is currently located in Waterloo, ON and can be transported up to 1,400 miles through NBRAN's amazing canine railroad (all volunteer drivers). His posting can be found here: http://nbran.or.....D=13227740
Max is so confident in his abilities he has recently started skipping stairs when he goes up or down. He has no mobility issues and is currently walked with my other dog for 30 minutes each evening.
He has been recently groomed (professionally), comes with new Lupine leash/collar, Sentinel heart worm preventative for the rest of the season, a new prescription of his thyroid medication (very inexpensive to refill), and some quality dog food to transition him over.
His adoption fee is $350 and all of it goes back to the rescue to help offset the enormous veterinary bills (Max's have topped $2,400 thus far).
He is amazing with people and loves children. He is good with my dog and interested in my parrots (cats unknown).
