Bean came to our No Kill shelter a little over a week ago with a badly broken leg. What we were told was a stranger dropoff turned out to be an owner surrender due to the owner being unable to pay for the very expensive surgery required to set her leg. Even with setting the leg however, Beans prognosis for recovery was poor. The decision was made that amputation would be the best solution for her.
She had her rear right leg amputated yesterday and is doing amazingly well. She has had absolutely no trouble walking, has been able to support herself when urinating and is in fairly good spirits. She is super friendly and has won the hearts of everyone she has met thus far.
We would love to get Bean into a loving forever home as soon as possible. Although I (the current foster) would love to keep her, she deserves so much more than I could ever offer her in terms of space.
Bean is:
* approximately 2 years old (looking at her teeth)
*Female
*Spayed (she had this done at the same time as the amputation)
*A tripawd as of 7/26/11
If you would like to know more information about Bean, you can check out the Friends for Life website at http://www.noki...../index.php or see some information about Bean on our facebook page at http://www.face.....ifeHouston (there is a July 26th post about Bean on the wall)

I could not find Bean at the shelter site, the facebook page does not work. Just wanted Mazzytaz to know.
We fixed the original link, it had an extra space in the URL.

Hi all!
I told Bean about her compliment, and I'm sure she was happy. She's pleasantly asleep in her crate right now. We had to take a run into the shelter to see about getting her a different e-collar as she keeps removing hers. She was the bell of the ball with all the people there. She's just so beautiful and with such velvet ears.
I just realized we haven't posted her on the shelter site as well. I'll talk to our director tomorrow to see if we can get her up there. It's a crazy time of year as it's kitty season. Right now we are running the Orange Crush sale with all orange kitties on sale! Bean was amazing around the cats today as well. She didn't even raise an eyebrow when surrounded by mewing kittens.
I wish more than anything that I could adopt her myself, but knowing that she will be adopted by a loving person or family is enough. If I didn't have to travel around for my job (and thus mean that I live in super tiny apartments ), she would have my name on her collar right now.
Foster pawents rock! Thanks for being there for her, we'll do everything we can to help. Any dawg that can handle being around an Orange Crush is a true sweetheart.

I have wonderful news regarding Ms. Bean here. She went to a new foster last weekend who has two tripawds currently, and recently had her beloved first tripawd pass away. She had the space for a third dog and so she agreed to foster Bean.
Today was Beans first showing at our shelter for adoption....she made it about 1 hour before she was adopted...by the foster parent who has had her for the last week! The Foster couldn't imagine here living with someone else so she adopted her quickly before someone else got her.
Yeah Bean!
Hooray! So glad to hear that Bean has a loving forever home 🙂

That's so great that Bean was adopted by a family of tripawds! Mazzytaz, if you have the means, please ask Bean's new pawrents to check in sometime. I would love to know how they ended up with 3 tripawds and hear how Bean is doing as well. Thanks so much for fostering her. Foster families are awesome!

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

I will most definitely tell Bean's new mom to check in. I just introduced her to this platform when chatting today. Even with her family of Tripawds, she hadn't been to this forum before. I'm going to send her the information so she can find Bean's thread, as well as let her know how she could set up a personal blog about her family of special dogs.
The greatest part for me is that Bean's new mom and I work together, so I have free access to updates regarding her new home life. I've also had an open invitation to visit her in her new home when I want so I feel like even though Bean is no longer living with me, I'll always have a place in her life. We had only a few short weeks together, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I balled my eyes out when I dropped her off with her new mommy (and former foster) last week....I also balled my eyes out today when her mom told me she was adopting her...so I might just cry a lot as well
Bean is so lucky and will be so loved. I couldn't have picked a better place for her to spend her life.
