I have a veterinarian friend who works in a New Orleans clinic, and one of the clinic's clients became homeless and had to relinquish Sassy, a stunning pittie mix. Who knows what all is in the mix, but she's got the best of a lot of worlds.

Sassy is 3 years old, about 45 pounds, and she has had some medical issues, but all were from being a homeless dog belonging to a homeless owner who tried their best but just couldn't do it all. Consequently, Sassy has overcome heartworm treatment and surgery to remove the sock she ate. She also had an unknown knee trauma and a surgical repair attempt that did not take, so her right rear leg was removed in the spring of 2014. She's been a tripawd for less than a year but long enough to have it all down really well. She doesn't slip, trip or freak out. She's a pro. And that's your gain! She's a perfectly healthy dog now and has also been spayed.

Pretty Sassy loves to go for walks and she is young enough to have energy and want to play, but old enough to like to snuggle and calm down. She thinks she is a little lap puppy.

Sassy's life on the street means she has exhibited some resource guarding (food and toys) but she has received behavioral training and is much better about this. On the street, she had no toys. In foster care, she has found the joy of toys and doesn't always want to give them up. Who could blame her? This does mean that Sassy should be crated when left alone so she won't eat another sock or soft toy and her humans have to be diligent about picking up toys if she's not being supervised. She hasn't had anyone helping her learn appropriate play before, so she's still learning. But she is learning! Her new owner should continue training with Sassy to keep her improving.

The great thing is that Sassy loves other dogs and kids. It's best for her to be with older kids (maybe 12 and up), but the age isn't as important as the understanding for how to handle her needs and be trusted to help with picking up toys and not interfering when she's eating. She doesn't have a lot of experience with cats but has chased some for fun (not aggressively) so a cat may not be a great housemate. I think the perfect home for Sassy would be a couple who likes to go places and take their dogs along, and I think Sassy would love having a canine roommate. I think she'd hit the jackpot if she could also have a couple of teenagers who would throw things for her at the park and just adore her. She's great in the car and loves to go. She loves to smooch and barks to alert at the doorbell but not excessively.

Sassy is just a really good dog who got the short end of the stick but has so many years left to give tons of wiggles, kisses, lap cuddles and love. She wants to be needed and loved. She deserves it. She's in New Orleans but transport can be worked out and her placement is not limited geographically, which is a real plus. Please contact me if you want more information or want to share your life with this incredibly special pup.

She is gorgeous.  If I didn't have my hands full with what I have, I'd take her. Will definitely share. Hope this sweet angel finds the best forever home. Your friend is an awesome person.  Since she isn't too far from me, I hope I have the opportunity to help with the transport.

I shared with my best friend who lives in New Orleans.......I know she can be transported, but you never know if she knows someone!

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013.
