Stellar Gets a Home for the Holidays!
Today, Stellar is living the good life with a loving family. But that wasn't always the case.
In late September, we found this sweet boy in a pile of trash near our shelter in Oakland. He had two unrepaired broken legs and could barely walk.
Our veterinarians performed life-saving surgery on Stellar to remove one of his irreparably damaged legs. He was also neutered and treated for an upper respiratory infection. Several weeks later, Stellar was placed up for adoption. While this lovable boy drew lots of interest, adopters were reluctant to take on a three-legged dog.
Then, the day before Thanksgiving, Stellar's luck changed when Nichole Henriquez and Chantal Picard walked into the East Bay SPCA's Oakland Adoption Center.
"We just fell in love with his personality," said Henriquez. "Stellar is a great dog and even with only three legs he has a zest for life."
The two women adopted Stellar and couldn't be happier. They have pledged to do whatever it takes to keep Stellar healthy and as mobile as possible. They plan to buy him a red wagon to ride in when he's tired and sign him up for water therapy to help strengthen his back leg muscles.
"Whatever it takes, we'll do. We're committed to giving Stellar whatever he needs to succeed in life," Henriquez said.

Hooray for Stellar! And his own little red wagon. Too cute!
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
