What a weird day full of coinky-dinks! (If you could care lessa about coincidences and just want to know about Luna - as you should – skip down to the summary about her below). While I was volunteering at the Humane Society today a guy was interested in either birds or a three-legged dog! He said he and his wife had kept getting "signs" that they should get another tripawd. None at the Dane County Humane Society though. But, my boss just happened to be in looking for a new dog, and alas the one she wanted had been adopted. So when I got home, I went and searched the Madison Mutts website (where I got Gerry) to see if there were any dogs that matched what she and her husband wanted (small and on the young side). And there was Luna the tripawd! Too big for my boss, unfortuantely. Sooo kicking myself for the missed opportunity. Maybe the guy will yet find her there – or maybe one of you or someone you know will be the perfect match for Luna.
Here's the summary on her, provided by Madison Mutts:
Sex: Female
Breed: Chocolate Lab mix
Age: 5 years Color: Brown Current
Size 60 lbs. Potential/Ideal Size: 60 lbs
House Broken: Yes
Obedience Trained: Yes
Living With: Foster home with small kids
History: Surrendered by owners
Good With Kids: Excellent with kids
Good with Cats: Yes
Other Dogs OK: Yes
Luna was sadly surrendered by her owner because she was being evicted from her apartment and could not take Luna with her. Luna lost her rear leg being hit by a car a few years ago, but she can run an dplay with the best of them! She is very active and will need a home that can get her out for a walk every day. Luna LOVES to play fetch and tug of war! Luna gets along well with cats and kids too! Please ask for her today!

Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.

Well they don't get any more adorable than her!
Thanks for letting us know! Paws crossed. I'll put this in our Facebook page.

Am I the only one that thinks thats 'odd'?
I sure hope Luna gets a home!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
She's a beauty. Sure hope she finds a great home.

He was a character, for sure, and didn't leave his info. He had said that he had heard something about a three-legged dog being up for adoption, but I guess didn't get the details and ended up looking at the wrong shelter. Sounded like he and his wife generally just have birds, and he sounded like a doting parent when he talked about them, but hearing the rumor about a three-legged dog I guess got them thinking about branching out (heh heh). He intimated that he had had a three-legged dog in the past and that's why the idea appealed to him. We recommended he search via the Internet, but I didn't think to mention Madison Mutts. He did seem more committed to getting another bird, and the dog idea may have been more whimsical. It was an odd coincidence, but maybe less odd now that I've gone into more detail about the encounter.
I haven't heard the term "current" before either, but she has some white on her chest, maybe on her feet as well. Looks just like chocolate lab coloring to me (but maybe that's what the professionals call it).
I've got friends and family in town spreading the word - paws crossed!!
Just checked and she's still available according to the website

Her story is also being spread around by members in the Milwaukee area. Paws are crossed!
As for a bird versus a dog? Seems like an easy call to us, but then again, we're a little bit biased.

Maybe they meant currant - as in the fruit, it's dark blackish-brown

Maybe Luna can be a special guest at the Madison tripawd pawty.
It sounded as though the doggy colors were becoming like paint colors. Rather than off-white, it is "baked brie" (and 200 other names for virtually the same shade). Now instead of a brown or choc lab, it will be brown current (or currant does sound a bit more appropo).
I seem to be very coincidence-prone when it comes to three-legged dogs. I SAW LUNA today when I was running errands. She was out running, presumably with her foster mom, since there are no updates to her adoption posting. I really wanted to flag her down, but it looked like she was running with earphones in (the human, not Luna) and I didn't want to startle her. I circled back and she was picking up after Luna so I thought it might work to pull over and roll down the window to introduce myself as another tripawd caretaker. But then the traffic around me was too heavy. So I gave up.... for now. It was definitely Luna though. I got a good look at her face the second time. Luna looked great! She was really enjoying her jog.
I'm sure I could e-mail the people I know at Madison Mutts to say hey, if you think they'd be interested, please pass along to Luna's foster family that we'll be having a tripawd pawty and so forth. But, paws crossed, she will be in her furever home before Gerry finishes his classes.
Thanks for the help spreading the word and all the pawsitive thoughts for Luna!

SCORE!! I just mispoke in a post to one of the newbies. I'm so hoppy! I just checked the website and everyone can uncross their paws. Luna was adopted!!! I'll be sure to ask Madison Mutts if they'll pass along to the new owners the info on the tripawd pawty we're having in Madison on May 30th (check out the Tripawd Pawty forum for more info on the upcoming Madison pawty!)
Yayyyyyy Luna!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Didn't there used to be a gigantic smiley face option. Oh well, you all know that my smile must be gigantic anyway)
