Our 150 St. Bernard Patchy had his leg amputated 3 weeks ago.  He is doing extremely well for his size.  I am posting this for those of you that are unsure about amputation to let you know that size and age does matter in that these giant breeds do very well on 3 legs.

Yes there are stumbles but the happiness from being free from pain for them is so wonderful. Our only regret is that we listened to uninformed people that due to his size amputation was not really a good choice for him.

Patchy had so much zest for life still that we couldn’t bear to take that from him so we gave him another opportunity a enjoying life and we are so glad we did.

Ultimately only we know our pets and can make that decision, don’t let others discourage you from, although an extremely difficult decision, because of age or size.

I have a blog going called Living in the Moment please check out the pictures posted there and see our big strong boy on 3 legs!

Hooray for Patchy, and hooray to you for giving him a chance!

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.
