Hello! This website is fantastic! I have found such great information. My 13 yr old labrador was just diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right forelimb. She has a moderate limp, but is still using the leg quite well. I have decided to amputate the limb (she is scheduled for Sx tomorrow) and was looking for any advice from pet owners with senior amputees, as far as post op recovery and mobility with arthritis in other joints, etc. Look forward to hearing from you!
Welcome, and best wishes for your pup's speedy recovery! What's her name?

Thank you for your responses. My old lady's name is Belle, like "Michelle My Belle" from the Beatles (her parents were Jude and Day Tripper ) I'm having troubling uploading her picture to my Avatar, but hopefully I will figure it out. I took your advice Sally (and Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle) and got tons of rugs for around our house, as well as ordered her raised food bowls, made ramps for her to get out of the house and off our deck, and got her a new orthopedic dog bed . She is having surgery today, and hopefully if things go well, she will be able to come home in a couple days. I have another dog and a toddler, so I'm trying to prepare as much as possible. It is so great to have this group as a resource to get advice and information! Can't wait to bring my old lady tripawd home

Make sure the image file is not too large. Anything over 100KB± is overkill, and photos larger than 1MB may just fail, .jpg is the best file format though .png is supported. If still having trouble, email us a pic and we'll update your avatar for you.

Update us when surgery is over. She'll be seeing pink elephants and resting comfortably. So you get a good night's sleep too, okay?
LOVE the names of all the pups!!
Look forward to your update.
Hugs!

So, she is home from surgery! She came home yesterday, and has been doing much better than I expected. Last night she seemed a little painful/anxious and didn't get much sleep, however, she did get some good naps in during the day today. I've been encouraging her to move around the house a little on her own, and took her outside to sunbathe for a bit today since the weather was nice. I've been using a sling to give her some assistance, but she seems to be doing pretty well without it. So proud of her!!
GRRRRRREAT NEWS!!!!! SURGERY IS OVER AND BELLE IS HOME!!! And able to move unssisted? WOW!! Good job sweet Belle!! You're showing young whippersnapper doggies how seniors rock this surgery stuff!!
Yeah, the first several nights can be a little rough, especially once the hospital meds are out of their system. If she's resting comfortably for the most part, that's really good. Rest is exactly what she needs.
Okay, next big milestone...let us know when she has her first poop! Yep, we celebrate anything around here!!
Love her avatar picture! ADORABLE!!
I know you have your hands full, but update when you can. We're all cheering for Belle...and singing Beatle songs in our head non stop!!
Hugs to all!

Thank you so much!!! We are very excited about her amazing recovery. She has already had 2 poops!!! We did a poop dance in our yard (I'm sure our neighbors are wondering about our sanity). But today was the big celebration. She went into her favorite spot outside (behind some rose bushes) and started digging!!! That's right..digging with one front leg!! I tried to get a video of it, but was too slow running inside to get my phone. She has been sleeping better at night, but does still wake up at least once or twice panting. Looking forward to her continued recovery, and more digging!! Thank you again so much for your support!!
OMD!!!!! DIGGING????? Already???? This girl is rocking her surgery!
And if she's just waking up a couple of times panting during the night, she's really doing well! It's probably when the pain meds are starting to wear off a bit.
Thi update just makes my day! Grinning ear to ear over here!! And keep that phone in your pocket non-stop! We HAVE to see a video of this senior girl sparkling already!!
Hugs to all!

And how is sweet Belle doing? Soooo early un recovery, especially for a "mature" girl, but sounds like some sparkle jas already started coming back.
